TW: abandonment, angst, betrayal

Ramón crashed to his knees, watching his hands shake as his breath hitched. "W-what do you mean 'he's gone'?" The brunette asked, looking up teary-eyed at his tío. Bad bit his lip and looked to the side, afraid to have to break the news. But he'd lost against everyone else, and had no choice but to tell the boy with tan scales the truth. Time seemed to slow for the both of them, it seemed as if the wind had calmed and the ocean waves that were crashing ashore had descended. "Ramón," the half-demon began, "I'm sorry...."

"No, no! You're going to tell me what you mean by that!" Demanded the boy, rising from the sandy shore with a look of anger, betrayal, sadness... or maybe all of them. "He got what he was looking for, Ramón... He left last night," the noirette explained, grabbing one elbow with the opposite arm, already feeling guilty for the look on Ramón's face despite not being a part of the problem. "You're lying," stated the dragon hybrid, turning back towards the land. "I'm gonna go home, and he'll be right there waiting for me, yep! He's going to be there," the brunette choked, trying to convince himself more than anyone else. The Brazilians, the French, Spanish, they all watched Ramón start running in the direction of his home, turning to Bad afterwards with a frown.

"Oh, the poor kid," Baghera mumbled, grabbing a hold of Pomme's hand. "Who is going to look after him?" She looked up, expecting for someone to step up, but nobody did. "I already struggle to be there for Leo sometimes," Foolish muttered, looking at Leo from a few feet away. "I don't think I can look after another kid," Phil said, looking at Tallulah and Chayanne, who were holding hands and looking back at him. "We're working on another project that will take months to years," the Brazilians explained. "I will look after him, I suppose," Bad sighed, looking at his own son, who was frowning and glancing in the direction what Ramón ran.

"Dad, we have to go after him right?" Dapper insisted, looking hopefully back at his father, who nodded. "I think we all should be there to comfort him, Fit leaving was not really expected from any of us," Richarlyson suggested. Soon after, they all found themselves walking down the same path that Ramón had previously. Bad, Dapper, Leo, and Forever all ran.

None of them were surprised to find the brunette breaking down on the grass outside of his home. "This is a joke, right? He's just playing a little joke on us for our birthday!" Ramón said. He'd believe anything other than the truth at that point. The worst part of Fit's absence was that the four older eggs had just turned a decade old. It was their birthday, and their parents woke up with a letter from Fit, explaining that he'd only come to the island because he needed something from the Federation. Everyone tried to make the eggs' birthday special, but they knew that at some point they'd have to break the news.

"We're really sorry Ramón.... but we will take care of you, okay? We'll look after you until...." Baghera began. She wanted to say 'until he comes back,' but, Fit had stated in the letter that he wasn't planning on coming back. "He's actually gone? My dad abandoned me?" More tears glistened in the brunette's eyes when he looked up. "No, he didn't abandon you! He just.... He...." Phil thought, trying to come up with anything but "he abandoned you". "He abandoned me. Just don't even try lying!" The boy screamed in pain, sobs following.

Everyone looked at each other, wondering how to calm the kid down, and if there even was a way to calm him down. "Etoiles, can you take Pomme home?" Baghera whispered, getting a nod in response. Soon all of the eggs followed, all being taken back home one-by-one, leaving Ramón in the care of Baghera, Bad, and Phil. The brunette boy was curled up on the ground, crying lightly with an occasional heartbreaking scream.

"Ramón," Phil began, sitting next to the kid. "Listen, I know things are tough for you right now, and I may not quite understand what you're going through, but I can assure you that everything will be just fine in the end," the blonde finished, rubbing the boy's back. He'd stopped crying, only sniffles being heard. "I'm sorry that I was so mean to you guys.... Please don't leave me too," Ramón said, sitting up and wiping his tears away. The other three frowned.

"No, no! Ramón, we are going to be here every step of the way, alright? We're not leaving anytime soon. If you need anything, just ask one of us," Baghera instructed as she too, sat next to the boy. Bad joined a minute later, sitting in front of the dragon. They had a moment of silence, just enjoying the company of one another. "Everything is gonna be fine kiddo," Phil reassured each time Ramón would start tearing up again, running a hand through the boy's brown hair.

"He told me that he was only for something.... but never clarified what he was looking for." The adults looked at one another in confusion as Ramón continued. "He said that once he got it, we'd leave the island together... It'd just be me and him," the boy choked. "But..... He left without me.... There is no 'I' in together....." The brunette finished.

But when he looked up, nobody was there... "Baghera? Bad? Phil!?" Ramón shouted, but his voice only continued to echo with no reply. He sat alone in the grass, confused, sad, betrayed by so many.... "I guess some promises are meant to be broken...." The brunette teared up again.

He fell asleep crying that night, alone in the woods.

At least, that's what he thought....

Ramón shot out of bed screaming "Dad!?" He was surprised to see Fit sitting next to his bed, a look of confusion and concern resting on the older's face. "Are you okay my baby boy?" The man said, looking at his kid. "You.... You're here? You didn't leave?" The dragon hybrid said, stunned. "What do you mean? Of course I'm here! I'm not leaving anytime soon," Fit confirmed, smiling when his son sighed in relief. "I'm sorry, I just had a nightmare that you left me on this island... Abandoned...."

"I would never abandon you! As long as I live, you will never be alone, okay?" The man said, hugging his son. "Of course. Love you Dad."

"I love you too my baby boy. Now get up, it's time to kill some catfish."
