Parents are supposed to be there for their children no matter what. They couldn't just pick and choose when the could be a parent and when they didn't want to take on the responsibility.
Well, that's at least what I thought.
Obviously I was wrong. Because that's exactly what my parents did.
I just ignored them and walked to my room, slamming the door behind me.
And I guess they didn't want to talk to me either because they didn't bother me at all.
That night I didn't sleep, whether it was because my mother was in the same house as me for the first time in five months or because I was still a little happy from my dinner with Xander.
When I woke up, I walked straight to the bathroom and immediately started taking a shower. Washing all of the leftover make up that I had on my face that I forgot to wash off after the game.
When I got out I put my hair into a ponytail and slipped on a set of jeans and a hoody.
"Arora!" My name came from downstairs. "Their is someone here to bring you to school." My mother's voice sounded through the quiet house.
I grabbed my bag and walked down the steps slipping on my moccasins at the bottom of the stairs, I pushed past my mother and slammed the front door shut behind me.
I looked at Xander and he looked slightly conflicted. I shook my head before getting into his car.
"Who was that?" He asked getting into the car.
"My mother."
He just nodded his head.
It's not that I didn't love my mother or my stepfather. I did. I had just lost a lot of respect for them as parents when they stopped being there for Shaleena.
After all, Ray was the only dad I'd ever had.
My real father had treated me like shit, and Shaleena like gold, even though he hadn't seen Shaleena in nearly a year, he still cared about her more than he did me.
My father was a man of favorites. Favoring Shaleena over me, until she stopped going to his house. Then he favored his girlfriend's kids over me.
It came of no shock to me when he'd signed his rights away. I was actually happy that he did.
"Does Shaleena know they're home yet?" Xander broke me out of my train of thoughts.
"I'm not entirely sure. I highly doubt it though."
"Why do you doubt it?"
"They haven't gone to see Shaleena in a year, what makes you think they'll see her now?" He just shrugged his shoulders.
I doubted she'd even want to see them anyways.
We pulled up outside of the school, and Xander parked the car.
We both got out and Xander was by my side almost instantly, grabbing my hand and intertwining our fingers.
I still wasn't used to having a boyfriend. The novelty of it just hadn't worn off yet.
We walked to the first period and took our seats.
The beginning of the day passed rather slowly, and I was happy that it was lunch.
I cautiously made my way to the table with Xander and took a seat.
I didn't bother looking at Danny or his girlfriend instead I focused on the rather amusing argument that Nick and Nick were in.
