-Amily's POV-

Two weeks later, Finnick had to make a trip to the capital. He wouldn't say what it was about but he clearly didn't want to talk about it. The other victors were a bit on edge when he left but it seems like he did this often. I wouldn't admit it, but I was going to miss him while he was gone.

A few days after Finnick left on his trip, Anchor took you and Annie into town to visit the market. You were surprised by all the pitiful looks you got from the people there. Even though the vendors tried offering you discounts, you paid extra as you had more money than you could ever need and most of the vendors weren't well off.

Before heading home, you stopped by the mayor's house to say hi to the Cresta's. Devon muttered a brief hi before going to his room. Apparently the topic of Dorian was a sensitive one for him. Mr. Cresta claimed that it was good to see me and Mrs. Cresta gave Annie and I some fresh bread she had baked to take home. Anchor left us at our front door and Annie and I went inside to continue our boring daily routine.

Over dinner Annie finally told me about the guy she was seeing. She wasn't the best at hiding it so you weren't surprised when she finally told you.

"His name is Trent," she said. "He's 20 and has a good job down at the docks. I'm going to have dinner at his place tomorrow if you want to come with."

You politely decline Annie's offer, stating that you weren't in the right headspace for new people at this time. She understood and suggested you invite Mags over so you wouldn't eat alone.

The next day you ignored Annie's advice and ate alone in your kitchen. You can't remember the last time you had more than a few minutes of alone time and you definitely missed it. Unlike Annie, you were not a social butterfly and people exhausted you. Annie came home late that night, clearly happy after her dinner with Trent.

"Im going to the market with Trent tomorrow morning!" Annie exclaimed. "He's gonna pick me up at 8 and you're welcome to join us. How was dinner?"

"It was good," you replied, letting out a large yawn in hopes Annie would get the memo you were tired and not ask any more questions.

Trent knocked on your door promptly at 8am the next morning. As much as you wanted to hide in your room, Annie insisted on introducing you.

Trent seemed nice. He was a few inches taller than Annie and had sandy brown hair. He left with her and you went to make breakfast and sit on the couch.

Around 9am you heard a knock on your door. Annoyed, you opened it to find a disheveled and clearly exhausted Finnick on your porch. He must have just gotten back from the capital.

"Hey sorry for bothering you," he stated. "I just wanted to check in."

"Oh um I'm ok," you reply. "I'm having breakfast if you want some."

He eagerly agreed, clearly starving, and joined you in the kitchen to eat. You noticed the stiff way he was walking and the slight wince he let out when he sat down but you knew better than to ask questions.

Finnick ended up staying till 11:30, leaving only when Annie got home. Annie rushed into the kitchen and I knew a dreaded barrage of questions was coming my way.

"Well you seem happy," she stated. "I assume you had a good breakfast with Finnick?"

"Um yeah," you respond. "He just wanted to stop by to check in."

"You two are definitely going to start dating," Annie remarked. "I can already hear the wedding bells."

"No lol," you said, clearly annoyed. "I'm not interested."
