The True Core And His Fated Mate: Bowuigi (Super Mario Bros. Soulmate AU)

The Mushroom Kingdom

*Mario's POV*

Me and Donkey Kong were stuck in this giant eel's stomach. Great, I'm stuck with the prince of the Kongs who is nothing short of a party animal and that I'm somehow attracted to him! Confused? Let me go back to when this "attraction" began.

When we had fought in the arena, something made us hold back from seriously hurting each other. At least, it made Donkey Kong more distracted while attacking me. It wasn't until I used the Cat Power-Up that I fully knocked him out. I felt like kissing him for some weird reason. And I nearly did! Thank goodness for the cat reflexes to move away from a falling object. Or in this case, a falling ape.

Later when he said that he let me win, I acted tough and I said that I could beat him up again. But I knew he had to have been honest: why else was he being so distracted? As Peach and Cranky Kong were discussing the plan, I couldn't help but glance at Donkey every now and then. We caught sight of each other, and I quickly averted my gaze back to Peach and Cranky.

Once we were on that weird Rainbow Road, being ambushed by the Koopas it appears, the moment he caught me with his Kart felt like I was a princess being saved by a knight in shining armor. And when that blue shell broke the Kart and the road underneath us and Donkey Kong was knocked out, something inside kept telling me "Save him! Save him!", so I did.

Now, after being swallowed by a giant eel, we couldn't look at each other. We even had a little fight, how cute... He was complaining about how his father would never see him as anything but a joke, and I told him how my Papa told me I was a joke too. And then he blatantly tells me that my dad's right?!

That hurt me so much, I grabbed him by the tie and told him his father was right too. When we stared into each other's eyes, I finally saw what that feeling was all along: a soulmate bond. And our close proximity perhaps made Donkey Kong realize it too. Finally realizing we were meant to be together, we kissed. A small kiss, nothing more. He smiled, and I did too.

We decided to get out and show our fathers we weren't jokes. And while we're at it, might as well save Luigi. I hope he's doing alright.

*Luigi's POV*

I was shocked: from what I've read about soul cores, magical dark cores are very powerful beings! But with being more powerful, they became even more rarer than their less powerful magical light core counterparts. "Luigi, if the rumor happens to be true, you'd be a legendary being. You'd be a Dark-Light Dual Core! A being of unimaginable power, capable of things no one else can do! You would have a constantly balanced control over light and dark magics, and coming from a True Dark Core, your magic would be more emotionally based." Nyx explained.

"Wisps all around the astral world have rumored the True Core to be what's considered a Magical Dual Core. Only one exists every century or two. If you're the Magical Dual Core, you'd have to resort to either very old magic books or experimentation." Elektra added. "That would explain why he even has a prophecy! He's a legendary being that rarely shows up! Wait! If I recall correctly, wasn't the last Dual Core to exist a Koopa from 250 years ago?" Kamek piped up.

"Yes, she indeed was. In fact, she was Bowser's paternal grandmother's sister. Yes, that's a mouthful to both say and remember. And it appears that the Dual Core before her was human. And it cycles between the two species, apparently." Elektra looked deep in thought by the end of her last sentence. "What if I'm the one to unite both worlds? The humans and the Koopas? There may be more to our prophecy than it lets on." I said, earning a confused look from everyone.

"Or to finally bring peace among all the lands! Kamek, you know the Koopa Kingdom has been troubled by wars for over 500 years. The dual cores before Luigi always brought some sort of temporary peace amongst the kingdoms. What if he's the one to finally settle the peace this world desperately needs?" Talassa said to Kamek.
