FLASHBACK: 6 YEARS AGO

"Do you have to go away Ber?" The 10 year old clung onto her sister with her arms around her neck, sitting in her lap crying and begging for her not to leave.

Astraea's sister, Beros, was leaving for college soon and she would be moving to the country of Otheon to study abroad and study in health professions. Otheon University also had one of the best archery programs and Beros had been accepted to go on a full scholarship.

"I'll be back hon I promise. We have vacation breaks so I'll be here for your birthday, Christmas, and any other holiday I can." Beros held onto her sister, rubbing circles on her back and shushing her sobs but she never stopped.

"Astra I promise I'm not leaving you forever" Beros pulled her sister off her shoulder and cupped her face, wiping away the tears seeping through her eyes, "Yamada will still be here when I get back and so will all of you. You'll see me again hon I swear".

Astraea held out her trembling pinky, plastering a shaky smile on her face. "Pinky swear you'll come back and watch the stars with me like we always do?"

Beros smiled and locked her pinky with the purple haired girl in front of her, "And we'll look for a shooting star when I get back, I
told you I'll always be here to see one with you Astra".

"Pinky promise?"

"Pinky promise love" Beros reached into her pocket and pulled out a small purple jewelry box, handing it to Astraea. "I also got this for you".

Astraea opened the box and inside was a silver necklace with a purple amethyst pendant attached, wrapped in a metal wire. "Amethyst right?" Astraea stared at the pendant in awe

"Yeah you don't know the trouble I went through to get that necklace" Beros scoffed, "It was the last one and I was this close to pulling out the bow and arrows for it".

Beros started laughing, holding her stomach and swaying back and forth while Astraea let out silent laughs, her breathing hitching as she continued crying.

"I'm really gonna miss you Ber". Astraea laughed out.

Beros stopped laughing and held her sister's hand, rubbing her thumb back and forth on top of hers, "I'll be back. Just like I promised".

"Yeah I know you will"

The day she left was a sad one. Her role model, her best friend, and her sister all left in that moment. There were times she cried even when she promised to be strong for her mom and dad, there were days when she would sit by the phone waiting for her sister to call to tell her everything about life in college, but Astraea held out hope that everything will be the same even if an important part of her wasn't there with her like always. This went on for months..

However everything changed when she was waiting by the phone one day and it never rung.

'Maybe she's busy'. She continued waiting till the next day

Nothing.
'She's probably caught up with school work'. She continued to waiting till the next day.

Nothing
"Maybe she's partying? You do that in college right mama?" Busy for three days in a row? She could've partied so much that she had a bad hangover? That's what Ber called it.

Her mother was worrying as much as she was but she kept it under wraps so she wouldn't scare her youngest daughter. "Mama, Beros is ok right?"

She looked into her daughters eyes and saw her world about to crumble. Her and her sister were attached to the hip. Astraea was always there for her sister like her sister was there for her. So when she saw her daughters eyes filled with intense fear, she couldn't lie to her anymore.
