Abby POV
4 months later
It seemed as if no time at all had passed since Christmas to another Quidditch season – Slytherin against Ravenclaw, again (and we obviously won) – and leading to the O.W.L. finals period. It was intense and I wanted to have the best grades this time.
Every night I'd stay up late with Lou and he'd explain me the content until we'd get so tired and fall asleep in the library. But when I did get up in the middle of the night, realizing I fell asleep there, I'd wake him up and we'd return to our dorms. The weirdest thing though is it's as if Alicia Lightwood knew exactly where I was, so she'd "wait" for me in the common room to come back. And Lily was the one who had the Marauder's Map. Of course, she thought that I didn't suspect anything until I went to confront her one night.
"What the fuck are you talking about?", she scoffed, pissed. "Why do you think the world turns around you all the time?!"
"I don't think that", I protested. "It's just suspicious that you're here every night, awake at the same time as I come back here from the library, plus you don't even have the Marauder's Map".
Suddenly, the fire crackling in the fireplace turned black. A skull formed in there and it "breathed" out a blue fire. I screamed, scared.
"Did you see that?", I was shaking in the corner of the room. "What the hell was that?"
"This?", she got up and examined the fire animation. "Probably Libby Krones is trying to scare us, threatening to invade the castle again."
"H-how d'you know?" I stuttered.
"I don't", she shrugged. "Just a guess."
The fire gained a normal, reddish color again, and I let out a sigh of relief.
"Anyways", Alicia stretched out and got up from the couch, "I'm going to sleep. You coming?"
"Yeah," I said quietly, too focused on the fireplace, afraid it'd make a weird shape again.
That night, I tossed and turned and couldn't blink an eye. I was drained, but what I saw that night was so terrifying and I couldn't get it out of my head.
I wrote a message to Lou on a piece of paper and sent it through magic fire straight to his bed. I wrote just 2 words: "Can't sleep".
Barely a minute later I get the paper back: "me neither. What happened?"
I hesitated. How can I explain that thing on a piece of paper?
"Just a weird thing the fire did I can't get out of my head. Maybe we can see it in the Pensieve tomorrow so you know what I'm talking about."
One minute later, I get the paper back, again: "I think I saw the same. D'you think Libby is inside the castle again or is it just a threat? Anyway, we'll see if we're talking about the same thing tomorrow. Bonne nuit, babe. I love you".
I had to write him back: "I love you more".
I love him too much; God knows how much.
The next morning I woke up to one of my roommates screaming.
"What the fuck happened?" I sat up in my bed, pissed and tired as hell.
"Clara!!", she shouted, horrified. "She's dead!"
"What?!", I bellowed, scared, and got up as fast as I can, and ran towards Clara's bed. She looked like she was sleeping, but when I came closer, she wasn't breathing. I tried to do chest massages, just like I saw my mum one day did to a weak old lady.
