Cody's pov
As I wake up, I groan as I get up. I grab my phone. I look at my screen to see. It's noon. God, I slept in. I put on my red hoodie and blue jeans. I see my classmates boarding the bus. Shit. I didn't know that they are leaving today. I immediately pack my bags. I sprint out of the door and run towards the elevator. I press it relentlessly.
The elevator door opens. I get in the elevator and press the ground floor button. Please make this elevator go faster. But to my dismay, it goes slower. By the time the elevator door opens, I get out with my luggage on my shoulder. As I run out of the hotel, it's too late. The bus has already departed. I assume that they went to the airport.
Why did no one text me that they changed the schedule? I walk through the unfamiliar streets of London. I know nothing. I sit down on the bench outside of the cafe. Eventually, night falls. I put my head down in defeat. No one will save me.
"Dude, you ok?" the voice said. I raise my head briefly. It's Ben. He looks concerned. Did he follow me? "Where are your classmates? what are you doing here alone in London?"
"They left without telling me," I said softly before putting my head down.
"Let's go," Ben said, grabbing my luggage. I stand up.
"Whoa, hold up there," I get in the way before snatching my luggage from him. Ben looks startled. He raises his eyebrows as if asking me about my concerns about following him. "I can't stay with a stranger," I said, throwing my hands in the air.
"Why is that your concern, Cody Hunter Grover?" Ben said. How did he know my full name? I'm speechless.
"How did you know my middle name?" I asked. I need some answers about Ben appearing out of nowhere.
"It's a long story. Just come with me and I will give you the answers that you need. I'm not going to kidnap you," he said. I sighed and walked with him. After minutes of tiring walk, we ended up in the shop. Ben rings the doorbell.
"Password?" the speaker says.
"It's Krypton," Ben says.
"The password is correct," It goes static before the door opens. It's an elevator. We both go in. The door shuts in front of us. He presses the button. Unlike the elevator from the hotel that goes slow, this elevator goes fast. I scream and hold onto something that prevents me from falling.
The elevator lands rough. The door opens. I'm shocked to see people working. Some of them are carrying files. I walk to the picture frames. I see my father. Was he an agent? "Let's go," I turn around to see Ben already walking away from me. I run to follow him.
"W-was t-that my d-dad?" I asked before looking back at the picture frame. As we pass by a couple of agents working on their computers, Ben looks at me nodding before looking away.
"We need a head agent," Ben said.
"Very well, I will get him, Mr. Graham," the lady at the front desk says and walks away. I sit down in the chair and Ben sits next to me. He sighs before speaking.
"Yes, Cody, that was your dad. David Grover was an agent of the British Agency. I looked up to him as my idol. He was one of the awesome agents. David was devoted to serving his country. But he resigned and went to America. We were sad about his resignation. I heard that he started a family there and he had you. May I ask what happened to him?" he asked.
A tear falls out of my face. "He died last year in a car crash," I said. Ben's face turns into a frown.
"I...I'm sorry to hear that, Cody," he said. "I'm sure that you will-" But a man in his 30s cuts him off.
"Mr. Graham, who is this?" he said. I could look at his badge to see his name: Jack Williams. Ben stammers before speaking.
"That's Cody Grover, David's son," he said. Jack scoffs before walking out. Ben runs after Jack. I follow behind him.
"Please, Agent Williams, he is the right person for this mission. He has his father's blood I know it. Please just trust him for once," he begs. Jack turns around before staring at Ben with an irritated look on his face.
"Listen, there is no way that I will let this child be part of this mission," Jack retorts. "Besides, I don't even think Cody has his late father's ability. I highly doubt," Jack said, annoyingly.
"Please give him a chance. If he doesn't have his father's talent, send him back to America," Ben says with a pleading look on his face. "Please,"
Jack sighed. "Fine, I will give him the chance. But still, I don't think that Cody is like his father at all. You will send him back to America if he doesn't show his spying skills. That's my final word," Ben nods his head and walks out. I follow him out.
"So, what is the purpose of 'rescuing' me?" I asked while my eyebrows raised. I sit down in the chair in the lobby. Ben sits in front of me.
"Alright, so what happened was that someone stole secret British files that involves the royal family. We need a partner. So I thought that you are the right person for the mission. So me and Toby tried to find you. I found out that your school is having a trip to London. I thought to ask you the night. I didn't expect your class to leave you," he said.
"How did you know where I was?" I asked. It's really hard for me to process all of this. My dad was a secret agent in London. I'm shocked. I remember Dad used to tell me about being an agent and what's it like. I snap out of my thoughts.
"It was a hunch, to be honest," he shrugs. "Anyway, let's finish this mission that your dad tried to finish. Let's do this for your dad," I nod my head in agreement.
