"I can't believe they're still making us to go to school like this."
Although Teddy knew Eve was only saying this to get on Leah's nerves, she agreed with the statement itself. Her parents had dropped a bombshell on her during breakfast about Penelope being in the hospital, but they still expected her to go to school today as if everything was fine. Teddy wasn't even nearly as close to Penelope as Leah was, so she couldn't imagine how Leah must really be feeling right now, despite how hard Leah was desperately trying to pretend to be fine.
Speaking of, Leah just gritted her teeth and started talking quickly, speeding up so that her pace matched her talking speed. "Come on, it's not that bad! And besides, Penelope would hate to see us slacking off on school. I mean, what would she think of us when she gets back?"
"What if she doesn't get back?" Eve mused. "The drunk driver crashed into her and she wasn't even in a car. People die in these kinds of-"
Suddenly, as if a dam broke within her, Leah abruptly whirled around towards Eve. Teddy held her breath and took a step away from the two. This was the first time she saw Leah ever get this angry. Normally, even when Leah got angry, she would still smile, but right now, her face was contorted in rage and tears were threatening to fall from her green eyes. "Shut up!" Leah's voice was so loud that Teddy tried to cover her ears, but she still could make out what was being shouted even with her hands over her ears. "Don't you dare talk about Penelope dying! She won't die, okay?! I know you've held some kind of grudge on me ever since you got held back two years because of that incident, but that was all your fault! And using this horrific incident to your advantage? How could you stoop so low?"
Teddy frowned. This was the first time she was hearing about any of this. She knew Eve had been held back for two years due to some incident, and she had always seen how despite Penelope and Teddy only tolerating Eve because of Leah, there seemed to be some hidden, unsaid strain between the two of them. But other than that, she knew nothing about what happened between the two. She glanced between the two twins, unsure of what would happen next.
"Whatever you say, sister. We both know the truth. At least now you'll stop pretending to be nice with me." Eve shrugged with a smirk before glancing at Teddy. "Oh, would you look at that? Did perfect angel Leah forget about her friend Teddy's sensory issues? How could 'Saint' Leah hurt her friend's ears like that?"
Teddy immediately uncovered her ears, not wishing to have her sensory issues be used as a weapon in the feud between the two sisters in front of her. However, it was too late, for Leah had already seen. Teddy was shocked as Leah's face then turned into sadness, another rare expression to be seen on Leah, before she walked up to Teddy and muttered an apology. Teddy signed a quick "It's okay" to her.
Leah sighed and just said, "Let's go."
"Hmm? What about me?" Eve asked.
"You can walk alone," Leah responded coldly.
"Looks like you showed your true colors finally," Eve said triumphantly, but Leah and Teddy ignored her as they trudged on towards school together.

"Hey Teddy-" Sawyer called out cheerfully from her seat before her face fell at the sight of Teddy's grim expression. "Oh no! What's wrong?"
Teddy fished out her phone from her bag and started typing into her AAC app, explaining to them how her friend Penelope got into a car accident last night while she was walking to the store and was now in the hospital.
"Oh no! That's horrible! I hope your friend is okay," Sawyer expressed.
"Mi más sentido pésame," Dora mumbled softly.
