"I'll take the first watch" Beckett says and I lay beside him. I fall asleep easily. I jolt awake at the sound of a cannon
"It's okay" I look around groggily

"Lindsay?" I ask and she sits up with a smile. The anthem starts playing and I peak outside, the girl from 10, both from 9 and the girl from 12 are all dead. Guilt fills me but I push it away. I tell the group and we sit in silence.

"So, us the careers and three others" Rowan says and I nod

"Yeah, the boys from 1 and 2 are good with swords and hand to hand combat but the one from 1 is smaller," Beckett says

"Beckett you take him" Rowan says, it makes sense. Rowan is physically bigger than Beck despite his muscles, plus the higher training score.

"The girl from 1 is average in everything and the girl from 2 is good with a bow and arrow. I'll take the girl from 2" I say and Lindsay looks relieved but ashamed. We form a plan, the careers are going to stay where they are or migrate to the cornucopia, I'm going to be bait. Beck immediately argues but it's the only way, I'm sneaky and skilled. Everyone else is going to sneak around and surround the base.

"My foot" Lindsay starts and I nod

"We need to wait till she can walk at least" I say and pass some of the pills. She takes it and we all go to bed. We wake up and eat some food. I check Lindsays foot and it's almost healed. We all walk out and our friends decided to teach us how to climb trees. Rowan and Lindsay climb up the trees within seconds, they drop down and I gape at them.

"Put your hand here and there" Lindsay instructs, I do and she grabs my waist. I pull myself up, I scale the tree slowly but I make it up there. I start hopping from tree to tree and Lindsay and

Rowan laugh, watching me. The rest of the day goes by quickly, no canons. We sit around the fire in the cave, laughing and telling stories.

"So, do you guys have anyone special back home?" I ask, leaning back

"I mean not really" Lindsay shrugs and Rowan rolls his eyes

"I see you with Alder everyday"

"Y-yeah, I like him but I dunno" Lindsay shrugs

"Well I have no one and I love it" Rowan sighs and I giggle

"What about you? Anyone back home?" Lindsay asks me and I look at Beck, hes already looking at me.

"No, not back home"

"Yeah" Beck agrees and the pair looks at us sadly. We take turns sleeping. I wake up and outside is dark, clouds block the sun and I pull on my jacket.

"We need to camouflage" Rowen says, taking off his jacket and we all follow him outside. He rubs mud on his skin, making him blend in the trees. "Except for you Y/n"

"Right" I nod but as soon as they start to cover in mud we hear rumbling and I turn, two animals barrel towards us. They're furry yet slimy, they have sharp teeth and a deformed face. I scream.

"Run!" I yell and I push Lindsay forward, she scales a tree followed by Rowan. Beckett can't climb, I grab his shirt and take off into the forest.

"Y/n!" Lindsay yells behind us.

"Climb" He breaths beside me as we run

"I'm not leaving you" I pant, not letting go of his shirt. My heart pounds against my chest. I hear a shriek and I look behind us, something hard hits me taking me to the ground. Hazle sits up in a panic, I push myself up and we stare at each other. Beckett is still beside me, staring ahead. Hazle and I don't move just looking at each other.

"Kill her!" Sapphire screams and I scramble up, grabbing one of my knives. The whole career pack is here, and it's just me and Beck. "Kill them" Sapphire yells and they charge us.
