Juleka was worried- more than usual. Luka was a very calm person, which was one of everyone's favorite things about him. He was typically a very "roll with the punches" kind of guy, constantly doing what he can to alleviate other people's burdens. Her brother was usually really good at keeping his feelings to himself as a result of his damn near constant people pleasing, which was a whole other issue, but seeing him crumpled on his bed looking nothing but defeated was not on her bingo card for the evening.

She stood in doorway silent as a mouse, his music was blaring so loudly through his headphones that she didn't even need to try to guess the song. It was immediately over, she caught the bridge of Taylor Swift's Haunted and knew it was over. This was a level-ten Marinette-induced breakdown. All plans were cancelled. Homework  and Rose would wait. Her brother needed her. She ignored the frantic notifications pinging her phone so much it was damn near buzzing off out of her pocket and slowly sat down on the bed next to Luka.

Luka was laying curled up in a ball, facing the wall with his hood pulled up. Closed off from the world, likely overstimulated, Juleka noted. She took a deep breath. Usually it was Luka doing the comforting, not the other way around so she was almost at a loss for what to do. It started with a gentle touch on the shoulder, from the way he jumped he didn't feel her sit down on the bed. "Jules!" He laughed, tearing his hoodie and headphones off and throwing the headphones to the edge of the bed, the music blaring so loud it was practically a speaker. He cleared his throat "What- uh- what are you doing home? I thought you were going to Rose's tonight?" his voice was just as scattered as he looked, croaking a little from the crying.

She just stared at him, "Cut the crap, Luka." she was opting for a more straightforward approach, it was the only way he'd listen to her and actually open up. "What happened?"

Luka folded remarkably fast, likely desperate for someone to talk to "I told her she could be with whoever she wanted" So it was about Marinette Juleka confirmed as she listened to her brother begin to cry again. "Why does it hurt so bad to see her with someone else? Why wasn't I enough for her?" he sniffled, running his sleeve across his face to wipe off the mix of tears and eyeliner from his face, likely for the hundredth time given how agitated his skin looked. Juleka found herself fighting the urge to get up and grab the moisturizer.

Instead, she sighed, tears welling up in her own eyes. She'd never really seen Luka cry like this before, so seeing him so distraught was entirely uncharted territory. "I don't know, Luka." She truly didn't know. She'd spent days herself wondering what the hell she saw in Adrien when Luka was right there literally falling over himself trying to make her happy. "It hurts to see someone you love choose someone else, no matter how desperate you are to give them a choice. You want what'll make them happy, but it don't think it magically takes the pain away when they tell you to your face that you don't." Juleka spoke quietly as she pet his hair, rubbing soft circles in it the way their mom would when they were little. "It's not fair..." she said, thinking back to her own slew of failed crushes "But love never really is. I mean, it was a challenge with Rose and I in the beginning. You'll find someone, Luka. You're seventeen, you have plenty of time."

"What if I don't" he asked, half sob and half whisper, "What if she was the one and I blew it? Just because I let her go? I-I didn't even- I could've-" he spoke faster, the panic setting in. Juleka could see him practically gasping for air.

Juleka propped him up and handed him something to squeeze, it was a small stuffed duck Luka had won at a fair a few years ago. "Focus on breathing and just listen to me, okay? You're damn near having a panic attack" She said, an unfamiliar burst of assertiveness in her voice dashing away just as quickly as it came "first of all, you did everything in your power to make her happy, it was her choice. It was not from your lack of effort, she just wanted something different. Second, everything will work out, you just have to let life do its serendipitous thing of figuring things out.
