What the Hell Happened

Luka didn't know what true, jaw-dropping terror was until he got that phone call. Sure, he was worried about everyone when the news began airing news about the villain. He was scared for everyone's safety when he heard just how dangerous the akumatized victim was, but he had the reassurance that Ladybug and Chat Noir were handling it. He got antsy when Juleka didn't text him back, petrified when he saw on the news that Ladybug's magic didn't heal someone and they were being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

His anxiety told him that one of his friends were hurt, but the statistical odds of that were insane. There were tons of kids in that school, and it seemed like the villain did a lot of damage everywhere. There was no way to narrow down who it was until the news shared more information. Something was nagging him to pick up his phone and call Juleka, but he didn't want to bother her. He looked at the time, biting his nails anxiously. She should be home by now, it was starting to rain. She could get sick if she was walking home in the sudden downpour.

He reached for his phone, and the moment he turned it on he was getting a call from Juleka. She hated phone calls, she almost exclusively texted him unless it was an emergency. He felt his heart rate spike as he answered the phone "Jules?" He asked, his voice cracking "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she paused, Luka strained to listen for any background noise. "But...(Y/N) isn't" he could hear the anguish in her voice and he immediately knew what Juleka couldn't find the words for.

"(Y/N) is the one in critical condition, aren't they?" Luka asked, trying to hide the fear in his voice from his sister. The whimper he heard on the other line confirmed the worst. His grip on his phone tightened as he felt his heart nearly stop, he couldn't stop the tremors in his body as he tried his best to at least sound calm. The last thing Juleka needed was to hear Luka melting down. "What hospital?"

"Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital" Juleka answered, her voice faltering. Luka knew she was terrified. Juleka hated crowds, she despised hospitals, and she was probably the only person there with (Y/N). "Can you meet me here?"

Luka was already grabbing his keys the moment he knew where they were "I'll be there as soon as I can, okay?"

"Okay"

All Luka could focus on was the blur of lights and roaring of car engines as he passed them, he couldn't even feel the rain soaking through his clothes and borderline freezing his skin. His mind still racing from the brief yet frantic call he got from his sister as the sun was just starting to go down. Apparently, as he learned from the text Juleka sent him after they'd hung up, she had done him the courtesy of not calling him until they were out of surgery.

The city lights no longer sounded peaceful like they did when he was with (Y/N), instead they felt like venom to his ears, reminding him just how much further he had to go to make it to the hospital. What used to put his mind at ease only served to make his heart pound that much harder as he felt himself gasp for air.

Luka stayed at his motorcycle just long enough to turn the damn thing off, he didn't bother to remember where he parked it. He'd find it later. He had to find his sister.

He stumbled through the doors to the hospital, the passing of nurses, doctors, and security not even registering as he almost flew across the tile floors, his boots squeaking on the tile as he ran. The only thing that made him somewhat coherent was the flash of his sister's purple hair in the corner of the ICU's waiting room. She wordlessly stood up and hugged her brother, murmuring frantic apologies as he rubs her back, letting their warm tears mix together.

"Luka, I'm so sorry. I could've stopped them. I shouldn't have gotten (Y/N) riled up like that," Juleka sobbed, clutching the back of his jacket so tightly that her knuckles were as white as the coats of the doctors around them.
