Owen gave (Y/N) an excited smile as he let (Y/N) take everything in. The music on the car radio played quietly in the background while (Y/N) admired what would be their new home. (Y/N) had been over a few times over holidays, but it never failed to take their breath away. The house was made from a muted red brick, boasting white columns and trimming alongside the grandest balconies they'd ever seen. Ivy plants grew up the house, along with a few flowers dotting the greenery, making it look like something featured in a love story. (Y/N) remembered Owen saying something about a few shows being filmed here. It was no surprise, the landscaping alone was worthy of a magazine article. (Y/N) was struggling to wrap their head around the concept of living in a place like this with three other people. (Y/N)'s parents were very comfortable financially but they never could have lived in a place like this and still put (Y/N) through school, especially with Paris real estate prices.
Their jaw hung open as they tried to do the mental math of how much this property was worth while Owen glanced at them and laughed. "Yeah, I still haven't gotten used to it and I've been here for a decade," he tilted his head as he spoke, unbuckling his seatbelt. "When grandpa tells you investing in real estate is a good idea, he means it."
(Y/N) reached for their seatbelt buckle but couldn't take their eyes off the house. It was like four stories tall, the stairs alone were going to be a workout. No wonder their grandparents were still in such good shape. "I get to live here?" they asked in disbelief, their eyes shifting Owen and his amused smile "seriously?"
"Seriously." Owen replied, a smug grin on his face as he laughed "Come on and get your jaw off the floor, we have to get you moved in," he opened his door and got out of the car, running around to (Y/N)'s side to get the door for them.
The house somehow looked even bigger as (Y/N) got out of the car "I seriously might get lost."
"Don't worry," Owen chuckled "they made you a map." Even Owen could recognize the excess in which his parents lived. While he was thankful, even he knew what a culture shock it was to most people. He turned from (Y/N) to direct the moving help as to where things were supposed to go. "(Y/N), go inside and say hi to grandma and grandpa while I get this stuff taken care of, they should be eating breakfast in the dining room." Owen said, waving (Y/N) off to go on their little side quest.
(Y/N) was a little surprised that they weren't allowed to help in the moving process, but they trusted Owen to make sure nothing got broken so they walked up the driveway to the door. (Y/N) had to stop themselves from admiring everything, forcing themselves to carry on through the house and to the dining room, standing in the entryway arch and trying to figure out if they should knock or not.
(Y/N)'s grandma looked up from her phone and her eyes lit up "(Y/N)! My darling grandchild, come in, come in!" she waved (Y/N) in, her jewelry clinked together in a pleasant bell-like tone as she waved her had. She got out of her chair and met (Y/N) by the window, enveloping them in a welcome embrace "I'm so sorry about your parents, honey."
(Y/N) hugged their grandmother back "It'll be okay...I know you miss them too"
She nodded, giving (Y/N) one more squeeze before pulling away "We have plenty of time to be all doom-and-gloom, but they wouldn't want you to spend your first day here crying the whole time. Especially when you're old enough to go out by yourself now."
"Kicking me out when I just got here?" (Y/N) put their hand over their heart, feigning offense "I'm hurt."
"You and I both know that's not what she meant, (Y/N)" (Y/N)'s grandfather's voice boomed. (Y/N) jumped, whirling around to see their Grandpa at the bottom of the stairs with his arms crossed and a sour look on his face. He didn't hold it for long, both (Y/N) and him cracking up. His eyes lit up as he opened his arms, walking into the dining room "Come here and give the old man a hug."
