Emma's POV

I sat in the living room by myself listening to music. Headphones blasting full volume to whatever came on the recommendation. What was on currently was 'American Teenager' by Ethel Calin. I wasn't into it very much but I'm not in the mood to change it. I turn my head over to the window only to see it's snowing lightly. The house was silent and dimmed so it was a peaceful setting to be in. Paul is working late so he won't be home for awhile. I hate being bored. I always need something to occupy myself. Thats when an idea came to mind. Christmas music. Jane always loved Christmas music. She would always wake me up on late nights and bring out to the porch and she would teach me how to dance.

"C'mon you got this!" Jane quietly encouraged me.
"No I don't stop lying!" I joke.
"Get your ass up and dance with me!! You're getting better at it!"

She grabs my hand and lifts me of the porch chair.

"Now remember. You're the woman and I'm the man. Where would you put your hands?" Jane quizzes me.
"Right hand on the shoulder and left hand holding the guy's hand." I make a sickening expression thinking about dancing with a guy.
"That's right Em!! See I told you, you're getting better!!"
"Why would I need this in the future?" I ask laughing.
"You never know if you find the right one, you know? Not all guys are jerks as you say. You can't give up."

The memory fades and I realized I'm standing standing alone with my hand on nothing's shoulder and holding their hand.

"Em why did you stop?" Jane asks.
"I forgot the rest that's why. I can't remember what happens after you twirl me around." I state.
"Emma how many times do I have to tell you it repeats. Step left, back, step right."
"Oh ok never mind I thought you added something there for some reason."

Jane and I laugh and continue on with the dance.

"Emma have you ever thought of falling in love with someone?"
"No never. I don't like the thought of it. I'm not as boy crazy as you are. True love doesn't exist." I said.
"Don't say that you never know-"
"Have you seen mom and dad? They fight constantly. It's like watching those dramatic ROM coms."
"Em that's just them, there's people out there who aren't like them."

I was more focused on the conversation rather than the dance.

"Aghh!! Shit!!" I exclaimed as my backs up into the chair.
"You fucking idiot!! Are you okay?" Jane tries to ask as she falls to the ground laughing.
"No I am not you asshole help me up!!"

Jane still laughs her ass as she is still rolling on the ground.

Memory fades again and I find myself on the floor. I tripped in real life, didn't I? Jane is one of the main reasons why I was in Brigadoon. She kept encouraging me to try new things and that's what I did. Jane helped me find who I am. Well when she passed I lost her, the Emma I once found. I lay my arm on the couch's arm rest and pull myself up.

"Step left, back, step right." Someone whispers.
"Hello?" I call out.

"And you have to keep slight turning your body as you step left then right." Jane states.
"When I step back then step left and then it's your turn to step back, right?" I ask.

I started to pantomime as if I was actually dancing with someone and following the steps Jane had taught all those years ago. Step by step by step by step.

"Feel a rhythm starting to develop between us. Just follow the flow." Jane noted.

"Just follow the flow." I repeat.

"Hey babe!! I'm home. "

The front door opened and closed Paul walked in. I quickly stopped what I was doing sat on the couch immediately.

"Hey honey!!" I get off the couch again and went over to hug and kiss him. When my lips met his, the memory came back to me.

"You never know if you find the right one, you know? Not all guys are jerks as you say. You can't give up."

"Paul I have question."
"What may that be my love?"
"Can I teach you something?" I ask.
"What is it that you wanna teach me?"
"I don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything but do you wanna maybe... d-dance together?"

Paul's face went from relaxed to confused.

"I know it seems extraordinary but it would be fun I promise." I noted smiling up at him.
He thought for a moment and spoke.
"I'll give it a try but just know I never danced before besides when I went to that one middle school dance."

I led Paul over to where I was dancing with nothing.

"So first you wanna put your right hand on my waist and the other holding my hand like this."
I grabbed his hand and I held it up where you're supposed to.
"Now just follow me okay? Follow the flow."

I stepped to my right and then left making Paul step back. From what I remember Jane said that we are able to go full circle with this dance.  I'm gonna try to do that.

"Please don't drop though!!" I exclaim.
"I won't drop you what kind of an idiot am I?
"Well I don't trust you!!"
"I'm your older sister just trust me on this on!!"

I sigh and Jane grabbed my hand. She twirled me around then spinner me back in dipping me in her arms.

"Seriously how could not trust me?"

"Paul you wanna try something? But you can't drop me."
"I definitely won't drop you princess. This is actually kind of fun."
We still danced to the steps as we talked.
"So baby, what I need you to do is twirl me around and spin me out then back in. After that, lightly drop me and use your arm that you twirled me with to bring back up. You understand right? It sounds confusing sorry." I joked.
"You got it."

Paul spinned me out and then back in. He luckily caught me in time. All you heard was our breathing in sync. Paul's face was so close to mine I blushed just thinking about it. Butterflies swarmed my stomach.

"You okay Em?" Paul asks as he still held me.
"Y-yea just... you that's all."

The small space between us closed and I held his face with my hand that I was able to use. He brung me back up slowly not wanting to drop me. We pulled apart slowly.

"Where did you learn this from anyways? You're like a natural at this." Paul assured.
"My sister Jane. She would wake me up in the middle of the night and sneak me out to the front porch to teach me this. Jane always taught me dances to distract me from our parents. She would always tell me that if I found the right one I'm able to dance with them." I ranted.
"Did you ever find the right one?" Paul asks with a smirk on his face.
"Paul are stupid? What did we just do?" I ask laughing at his stupidity.
"I don't know you tell me!" He shrugged putting his hands on his hips.
"Well guess what... I did. He's standing right in front me with his sassy little self." I joked pulling him by his tie for another kiss.

Paul's hands traveled my body then to hips squeezing them. I love it when he does that. He knew it made me smile like a idiot.
We pulled away.

"Merry Christmas Paul." I said quietly.
"Merry Christmas Emma."
