The cab finally pulled into Oscorp's driveway. Peter paid the driver and stepped out. He looked up at the massive building that was Oscorp Industries. There were a lot of memories he had here. Up at the top floor he, Otto, and Curt worked on Project X-18, the serum that unfortunately turned Curt into a reptilian creature, which the news simply called "The Lizard." Another memory was the fight on top of Oscorp where he, Otto, Harry, and Felicia had to stop Curt from trying to turn the rest of the city into lizards. Another memory came upon him when he went in and he saw footage of Norman killing his work--
"No," he told himself again. He couldn't think of that. Even where there were fond memories there were horrible ones. But in a way, this was where Spider-Man started because Norman became Goblin in this very building, and Goblin was the first bad guy that Peter had ever put behind bars. It was proof that he could take on anything from that moment on.
Nonetheless, something else, other than the memories and the man who knew Peter once graced New York in red and blue spandex, was making Peter iffy on entering the building. The other thing in here was Harry. Harry Osborn, his, now, former best friend. He had no idea what he was going to say to him when he walked in. Harry had certainly changed over these past years, and not for the better unfortunately. Sure, he kept Oscorp from being thrust into bankruptcy, but, like Peter, he was stressed. Stress was what stopped Peter from being Spidey, but stress didn't stop Harry from keeping control of his father's enterprise. No wonder Harry kept popping those pills.
Peter walked in through the front sliding doors. The cool air conditioned blast hit him in the face as the air was sucked outside. As he walked through the front lobby, it was obvious that nothing had really changed in the building since he last came in here. The front lobby was massive, with people working on computers scattered along the bottom floor, the ones that Harry had always joked about them being "scrubs." The only separation between them and the front door was a massive security desk, littered with security guards and front desk ladies.
Yep. It hadn't changed one bit.
He approached the only face at the desk that looked familiar. The black haired lady, who was about his age, was sitting at her station was deep in her work. He approached the desk, and she didn't even look up when she spoke.
"Hello, sir, welcome to Oscorp, what can I do for you?" she asked quickly and almost monotone.
Peter smirked. "Actually, I've been summoned, Cindy," he responded.
Cindy Moon shot her head up and looked at Peter. Cindy was a biracial Asian lady who had gone to school with Peter at Midtown. She had gotten a job for Harry a little while back. She was smart; she was very smart. Her being down at security and check-in always bothered Peter, but Cindy wasn't complaining with how much money she was making. Also, it was clear that Cindy had a bit of a crush on Peter.
"Oh my gosh," she said surprisingly and almost under her breath. "Peter-- Pete, what are you doing here? How have you been?"
Peter realized that she was so deep in her work that she wasn't even paying attention to what he had said about being summoned. He chuckled a little and restated his original claim. "I've been good," he said. "Harry asked me to come here for some--" he thought quickly, "--meeting."
Cindy nodded along, but a somewhat confused look overtook her face. "Wait," she said, "you and Harry are chill again?"
Peter answered honestly. He sighed. "I don't know."
She nodded again. "He never talks to me anymore, so everything I hear about him is from Felicia." She looked at the touchscreen pad below her as if something came across the screen was almost confusing. She took it off the screen. Probably security stuff. "Well," she said, "the elevators are still in the same place you remember. It's good to see you." She smiled. "I'll buzz you in."
