Aaron had a broken nose ever since his run-in with the Punisher. He had been thinking about all that that gone on the past few days, and it was a lot for him to think about. The biggest thought he had was the thing that really did bother him after his run in with the Punisher: was he a killer?
Like really. Was he capable of killing? He had been a thief for a long time... Yeah, it seemed like forever. But was he capable of aiming a gun and pulling the trigger on someone. He hated Spider-Man, sure, but was he capable of killing him?
Aaron was relaxing in his suave apartment in Brooklyn trying to forget about all of this crap. He had heard that all of the other assassins had gotten killed; it was all over the news at the moment. Also, Spider-Man was back as well. Isn't there anything better on the news? he thought to himself. This Peter Parker guy was pretty slick. Aaron couldn't believe how young he was. He couldn't even believe that a guy could be 24 and still be a superhero.
He went over to the refrigerator to get another beer and a fresh ice pack for his nose, because the one he had had melted. He felt tired after these past few days. Everything that was going on was pretty exhausting.
His phone began to ring, and he looked at the contact: Miles.
Miles Morales was his nephew, and the son of Jeff Davis the cop. Miles was the brightest kid that Aaron had ever known. He always tried to steer him straight away from crime so he didn't end up like him. But, nonetheless, it was working because of Jeff's disliking of Aaron. Aaron and Jeff didn't get along with each other after a while, partly because Jeff found out that Aaron was the Prowler. Jeff had warned him a couple months ago that if he had continued this crap then he was gonna turn him in. Aaron kept his head low since then, only showing up as the Prowler when he thought about killing Spider-Man. Miles was the, sort of, mediator between him and Jeff, although he had no idea what had came between the two of them. They both decided to keep the news from Miles.
Miles was also the biggest Spider-Man fan ever. Peter had saved Miles one time when a truck was about to hit him during a bank robbery gone wrong. Ever since that day, Miles was the biggest Spidey supporter ever. He was absolutely heartbroken when Spider-Man disappeared. The Ghost Spider showing up made it a little better, but the sting of not having Spider-Man in New York was not a good one for Miles. Aaron figured that Miles was over the moon now.
He was going to accept money to kill his nephew's idol. This thought hurt him greatly.
He answered the phone and put it on speaker. "'Sup, Miles?" he greeted.
"UNCLE AARON!" Miles shouted over the phone. "You watching the news?"
Aaron exhaled and just grinned ever so slightly. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I see it. Spidey is back in town." He took the beer out of the fridge and opened it. "Dude decided to come out of retirement after all."
"I can't believe it," Miles responded. "It's like the greatest day ever, dude. New York is gonna be so much better again."
Talking about Spider-Man was so much fun to Aaron (sarcastic, of course). He loved Miles, but the kid would NEVER shut up about Spider-Man growing up. Yeah, he was fifteen now, and Aaron thought he would grow out of it by now. Aaron couldn't just tell him that, according to the news, he was one of the supervillains of Spider-Man. So, he just went along with what Miles was saying.
"Sure," Aaron responded flatly.
Miles paused on the other end. He could tell his uncle was having a tough time. "Is everything okay, Unc?"
Aaron rubbed his eyes. "It's just been a rough couple of days, Miles, I ain't mad at you." He took a swig of the beer. He leaned up because he didn't want to disappoint his nephew. "Hey, lil dude, tell you what. You doing anything tomorrow?"
