Chapter 12-Just let me love you

"Vegas?" came a fairly close voice. When Vegas looked away from Pete's eyes, he saw Daw standing next to the bus, and next to her, Atid. Pete's eyes widened in shock and then his amazement turned to sadness. Atid looks...deplorable. His eyes were red and it looked like he was about to cry. His face, once happy, was nothing but terrible sadness now.

"Honey, what are you doing here?" Vegas asked, leaving Pete and walking towards his girlfriend.

"You didn't answer the phone and you were supposed to come back a day ago. So I was worried and came to look for you" answered the girl.

"Can we talk a little, alone?"Vegas just nodded and took Daw by the hand leading her near the edge of the forest, to a place hidden from the eyes of the world. When they stopped, Daw turned to Vegas with a neutral face, but her eyes said otherwise. They exuded pain and disappointment, but not for her. But for her brother, for the one she was supposed to protect, being the older sister, but she failed, and Atid was suffering. And the girl didn't like that.

"What happened baby?" asked Vegas, seeing that his girlfriend was not well.

"Look, Vegas, you know how much I care about Pete. He's your best friend and I couldn't be happier for the fact that he's your trusted person, next to me, whom you can trust to no matter what. But Atid is my brother, blood of my blood. His suffering means my suffering"

"What do you mean by that, Daw? What happened to Atid and what does it have to do with Pete?"

"The two broke up. And that's not the problem, people break up all the time. The problem is what led to this"

Vegas was puzzled. He knew that Pete had broken up with Atid, that was the only reason Pete had agreed to Vegas' proposal, but he didn't know the reason and didn't have the courage to ask. It was enough that he had hurt his friend, he didn't want to discuss something that would have produced a final blow for Pete.

"I don't understand, Daw. Tell me, what happened"

"Pete cheated on Atid with some guy from the club you went to before your concert in Chiang Mai" explained the young girl, and Vegas was shocked. Was this the reason the two broke up? Now he understood why Pete had cried himself to sleep that evening. Pete had been cheated on by his ex-boyfriend, and when the two broke up, the young man swore to himself that he would never hurt someone in this way. He knew how bad it had been for Pete to go through this, he knew how much he stood by him to help him get back on his feet. And yet, so that the young man could accept the proposal that hurt his heart full of love for Vegas, he had resorted to this method. "Oh, Pete!" thought the artist. Pete must have loved Vegas very much since he had used the method that had broken his heart to break another.

"That's exactly why I wanted to talk to you about Pete" Daw continued since Vegas wasn't saying anything.

"I do not understand. What does their breakup have to do with me?"

"Pete being your friend hurts my brother. The fact that you see Pete in the studio and go on tours and go out hurts him knowing that you have this chance and he doesn't," said the girl.

"And what would you like me to do?" Vegas asked curiously.

"I want you to stop seeing Pete," said Daw, the demand that had sealed Vegas's conviction.

WHILE ON THE BUS

"Atid..." Pete said softly.

The young man looked at him and Pete's heart sank. He had never seen Atid so sad. Tears gathered in the young man's eyes and he bowed his head again. The brunette felt disgusted with himself. He didn't want to do that. He didn't want to fall in love with Vegas, he didn't want to use Atid as a dressing to forget his love for the young artist. He hated himself for it, but he couldn't go back, it was too late. The dice had been cast, and the game had to go on.
