"Oh God. Why did I accepted Porsche's invitation?" Pete said to himself.
All he wanted was to run as fast and as far away from that place as possible. He just wanted to help his cousin, not to be put in a totally embarrasing situation.
"Take a seat, Pete. Why are you frozen? You look like you saw a ghost" Daw's father started laughing.
"He didn't see a ghost. He saw his mistake" Vegas said and than he started drinking from a glass of water.
Everyone was stunned by what Vegas said and Pete almost passed out. How could he say that in front of everyone. For God Sake! He could shut the hell up for their friendship!
"I'm just kidding. Keep calm, I've known Pete for many years. He's probably arranging his thoughts, he still has this habit" said Vegas, adding a smile at the end.
"Yes, he's right. Please excuse me" said Pete sitting down on his chair and giving Vegas a bad frown.
Daw's father ordered the housekeeper to bring them the food. Everything looked wonderful amd smelled absolutely divine. Some yellow curry with rice was also prepared, a specific food from the South, knowing that Pete came from that area. There was also shrimps, soups specific to Thailand, many desserts. A plate with a cake made of caramel, bananas, biscuits and whipped cream, called Banoffee Pie was put in the middle of the table. It was Vegas's favorite cake.
"Sir, everything looked absolutely stunning" said Kinn, reaching for the plate of shrimps.
"Wait and taste. You'll wish you never left from here" the old man smiled and the others started to giggle.
"Pete, from what I understood from Vegas, you're from the South side. I went through those areas with my wife on my honeymoon. Absolutely gorgeous places. But, if I may ask, why did you choose to come to Bangkok?" asked Mongkut, the girl's father, curiously.
Pete looked at Vegas and then bowed his head. Vegas knew the story all too well. Pete had a horrible childhood. His mother died when she gave birth to him, and he stayed with his father. His dad wanted to make Pete a boxing champion, but Pete didn't want to go on that way. When he had the courage to tell him this, his father got angry, hitting him countless times. He continued to beat the poor child for several weeks, until one day, it was announced that his dad was involved in a car accident and died. Since then he lived with his granparents. He studied hard, received a scholarship and with it, a place at the university in Bangkok. He immediately accepted and left the South side, promising his granparents that one day he would come back to take with him in the big city. But until then, there was still work to be done. Pete had graduated management university, and soon after, he met Vegas. A few months later, Vegas asked Pete if he want to be his manager and he gladly accepted. Now he had a good salary and he had his own apartament and his own car. But he still had to collect more money to allow himself to offer his grandparents the life he promised them.
"I came here with the faculty" was all what Pete could say. Some things had to remain his. Only Porsche and Vegas knew his story. He didn't want anyone else to feel sorry for him.
"Let's eat" said Daw and everyone agreed.
After some time, Vegas excused himself to go to the "bathroom" and then, he returned with an expensive bottle of champagne. Everyone looked at him questioningly, and then he smiled and went to his girlfriend.
"As you know, this Saturday is..." Vegas started to say something but he was interrupted by Kinn.
"...my anniversary with Porsche of 2 years, 7 months, 3 days, 22 hours and 16 minutes" said Kinn and everyone looked at him.
