ABUJA, NIGERIA
It's the day after the unplanned Nikkah, Batoul woke up with a throbbing headache. As she remembered she was now a married woman, she groaned. In a good way. Ya Allah. She lay on her bed for a good twenty minutes thinking about life before Adda Sakina came in and disturbed her peace.
"Good, you're up." Said Adda Sakina.
Batoul sighed and sat up. "Yes, I am up."
Sakina sat at the edge of the bed, looking at her little sister with a proud look. "Are you ready to meet your in-laws?"
Batoul palms her forehead, she has totally forgotten that she's meeting her in-laws today. Bashir is coming over to take her with him to greet his parents. She's so nervous about that but Adda Jiddus has been reassuring her that she has nothing to be nervous about, they are very nice people and so on.
She checked the time and saw it was half past twelve already. Bashir says he will pick her up at two o'clock. She has to start getting ready. She got up from the bed and walked to the bathroom. Batoul took her time and showered with hot water and her favorite shower gel by Dove -strawberry petals and roses. She came out after fifteen minutes and started to fish for outfits to wear.
Just for Adda Keeks to walk in with a box. "Here you go. Ready to wear Atamapa in your size cause you will be needing this as a bride" She dropped the box next to the fan and she left Batoul to look for what to wear in the box. It had 5 sewn Atampa, 3 sewn laces and 3 Abayas, Chantilly veils, bags and shoes, perfumes, and pieces of jewelry to match.
She sighed, what do you even wear when you're meeting your in-laws for the first time? Ya rabbi. She just stood there, hands akimbo staring at the box silently hoping she spotted a simple yet elegant outfit to wear.
15 minutes went by as Batoul just stood looking at the opened box, wondering how her sister pulled this in a day. But then, Instagram vendors never cease to amaze her. How lucky is she to have such amazing sisters, Ma sha Allah.
The door opens, revealing a confused Adda Sakina. "Are you going to keep looking at the clothes or are you eventually going to pick one up and get dressed?"
Lulu whined. "Adda, I can't find anything to wear," She said as she went on to hug her sister "Thank you much for coming through for me any day any time Adda. But then, I mean what does one wear when meeting their in-laws for the first time? Huh?" She finished all panicky.
Adda Sakina walked to where Batoul was standing and put her hands on her sister's shoulders. "Calm down, Lulu am, we will find you something to wear."
Batoul took a deep breath and sat on the bed while Adda Sakina shuffled through the box and brought out a simple and decent Ankara, matching veil, shoes and bag for her sister to wear.
Batoul let out a sigh of relief when she saw the Ankara Adda Sakina brought out for her, it was a purple super wax sewn into a straight gown. She mentally nodded in agreement and proceeded to get dressed. She decided to put on a little makeup, a little makeup for Batoul means powder, eye pencil and lip gloss. That's basically what she calls makeup.
She finished up with a spritz of one of the new perfumes she got, looked at the mirror and nodded contentedly at the way she looked.
She left the room and went downstairs to have breakfast/lunch as it was already noontime. She met Ammi and Noor in the living room talking about something that clearly doesn't concern her. Noor is back home for NECO. She went ahead and greeted her stepmother.
