Jennie was sitted at her father's study feeling very nervous. Peterson Brown had already left, and her father had immediately asked to speak with Murrieta privately, sending the boys upstairs to their rooms while she was said to wait in her father's study.
She waited for a while, her phone in hand with no messages to respond to since she had just one friend who had sent her a goodnight text earlier on, and a boyfriend who was never game on texting or calling her unless if it involved him wanting something. She looked around the room, her eyes scanning every photo hanging on the walls.
There were separate photos of herself and her brothers when they were all still babies, and others of Murrieta and Joshua, none of the photos being that of her mother. She felt something boiling inside of her. It could've been the hatred she had started cooking inside of her when her mother died or...
...Just the pain she tried to hide.
Either way, she couldn't overthink any further as the door opened, Joshua walking in with Murrieta in tow. The woman looked distressed, which made Jennie more nervous.
She shifted uncomfortably on the couch as the couple pulled chairs and settled them just infront of her, slowly sitting down as if they were carrying heavy loads on their shoulders.
Jennie looked at the both of them, her left leg shaking slightly due to her nerves.
"Have I done something wrong?" she asked, her voice in a tone of fear.
Joshua shook his head, his eyes failing to look at his daughter as he was conscience-stricken.
Murrieta, in seeing the difficulty strangling her husband, decided to be the one to break the ice, or atleast in their case, the one to break the news.
"Jennie, the man who came here, he..." she stopped, her voice almost cracking as she failed to get the words out. She turned to look at her husband, her eyes begging him to be the one to speak as the father of the young girl infront of them.
"What's going on? Am I in trouble?" Jennie spoke impatiently, her leg now shaking violently. She hated it when it did that, but she couldn't help it, nor could she stop it from shaking. She was anxious and scared.
"Dad?" she spoke again, her voice rising a bit as her frustration rose.
Joshua finally looked at his daughter, his eyes watering and his voice cracked as he spoke.
"You're getting married," was all Joshua could say before bursting into tears.
Jennie almost had a heart attack. She froze, her eyes were open, but she couldn't see. Her ears clean yet she couldn't hear anything except for a ringing sound that sounded too loud for her sensitive ears. She could see her father crying infront of her as Murrieta tried to calm him down while trying to fight back her own tears.
She felt numb, as if everything had just paused for a second before it started moving very slowly. The last thing she saw was darkness, her name being called out in panic before she felt her body collapse to the floor, then it was lights out.
