I watched from my window as my mates drove off. Fuck this was bad. I couldn’t be tied to a pack. The last time I was… Goddess why now?

Kenzie, please, I really want to be near mates. Can’t you please give it one chance? It could be different then last time. They will protect you. They can protect her.

I shook my head. I refused to allow anyone near her, no matter what Celeste said. I couldn’t risk it again, I was lucky enough to save her from the last pack I tried.

-FLASHBACK-

“Kenzie! Please help!” A small song-like voice cried out. Sprinting I followed her scent down the stairs farther and farther. The honey citrus scent that always led me to her grew stronger as I got closer. I gasped as I saw her in a cell. I knew better than to trust this goddamn Alpha.

“Sissy, please, get me out.” My younger sister sobbed. She was only nine years old, she wouldn’t even get her kitsune for another few years. This was unfair. Her strawberry blond hair was matted with blood, clumps of it missing entirely. Her moon light silver eyes were over filled with tears. Her hands were bound together with silver cuffs, and connected into the wall with a silver chain. Those fucking bastards. I knew I shouldn’t have trusted the creepy Alpha who only seemed to want to stare at my ass and breasts.

Kenzie, we need to get baby sissy out. Celeste growled, and I felt a surge of power run through me. I grabbed the iron bars of the cell and bent them far enough that I could get past them.

“Sissy, please…” Her voice was faint and her beautiful eyes were growing dull. I ripped off my shirt and wrapped the cloth around my hands before grabbing the chain and ripping it out of the wall entirely. Rage filled my body and I snapped the cuffs off her wrists. I scooped her up, carefully exited the cell and ran. I should’ve never trusted that these pieces of shit wouldn’t try and just turn us over to the Hunters.

After we had escaped from the initial hunters who had flooded our packs, we found out that there were multiple black market offers for anyone who would offer up a kitsune. This Alpha had offered us safe haven when we had accidentally stumbled onto his land while fleeing. I thought it was weird when he had me in his office today, randomly going on and on about my future role in the pack. My link with my sister had suddenly been cut, that’s when I realized that the fucker was just trying to distract me. His sick smile told me everything else I needed to know.

“Sissy…” She whispered, and I shushed her as I continued to sprint into the surrounding forest. I knew we were getting close to the edge of this pack’s territory. As I got closer I found myself facing the Beta of the pack.

“Kenzie. We offered you safe haven, and whereas you are free to leave if you please, I don’t think it would be in your best interest.” He laughed. I hated this pack.

“Kenzie…” My little sister whimpered as I set her down softly against the tree. I wasn’t going to go down without a fight. I kissed the top of her head and gave her a wink.

“Don’t worry Tori, this won’t take long.” I smiled at her, before turning around on the Beta. He was as much of a creep as his Alpha. I expected the pervy nature, considering both of them were unmated, but they were just downright gross. His eyes raked over my body, undressing me with his stare. I shivered in disgust. I hated everything about him.

“You haven’t even had your wolf… oh, I mean your kitsune for even two years yet, what the hell do you think you are going to do to me.” He taunted me, the fact that I wasn’t even eighteen yet, and I wouldn’t be until the end of the year pissed me off. The fact that they were staring at me like this, when I wasn’t even old enough to sense my fated mate, meant they most likely were looking at Tori this way too.

I launched myself at him and let Celeste push claws through. I ripped into his face. His fist connected with my ribs and I felt them crack. I bit my tongue so I wouldn’t cry out. I sweeped his feet out from under him, knowing that I was only catching him off guard cause I had speed on him. He went down hard and I immediately was on top of him, beating my fists into his face, feeling his nose break, and watching the blood pour from it. I wrapped my hands around his throat and cut off his air until he passed out. Jumping off him, I scooped up Tori and sprinted out of the territory.

-END OF FLASHBACK-

I pulled out my phone from my bag and dialed my sister’s number. I gave her a phone to use only for contacting me and our aunt while she was with me. Currently she is with our aunt. I missed her dearly, but it was safer for her in the forest rather than the city. I hated leaving her out there. She would be turning eleven this year, a couple months after I would be turning twenty. She would get her kitsune on her sixteenth birthday and would be able to find her mate when she turned nineteen. Nobody knew why kitsunes found their mates at a younger age, but we could. Some thought it was because of our deeper connection with the Moon Goddess. I listened to the phone ring before it connected through.

“Kenzie!” Tori’s voice rang through the phone as I put it on speaker and set it on my desk. I couldn’t stay here, especially since my mates knew where I lived now. I knew they wouldn’t want to stay away for long, and I couldn’t trust that they wouldn’t tell the wrong people.

Kenzie, please, don’t run away. Celeste begged me, and I shook my head. We both knew we had to go, I hated it just as much as she did. I did love my mates already, but I can’t lose Tori.

“Hi, Tori! Great news! I’m coming to stay with you and Aunt Lydia.” I heard her scream in delight and then she explained to our aunt. I knew I was always going to be welcome there anytime I needed. I was excited to see my sister but it hurt to know I had to run from my mates.

“Hey Zee, how long will we be expecting you?” My aunt asked, I could hear Tori in the background yelling that I should stay forever. I laughed and sighed to myself.

“I think I’ll be there for a while. I lost my job here and I ran into some issues. Will my foster pup be okay to bring with me?” I asked as I finished packing up the rest of my stuff. I never kept a lot here with me in the first place. I grabbed the second bag and packed up my puppy’s stuff and started to coax him into his travel crate.

“That’s quite alright, dearest, by the time you get here I’ll have your room made up.” She informed me. They lived only about four hours away by train, so I would be able to be there tonight. Luckily I always kept just enough in savings to make it there.

“I’ll see you soon.” I ended the call before grabbing my bags, my pup, and heading to the train station.

I hope we get to see them again one day. Celeste sighed in the back of my mind before curling up in a ball. I couldn’t agree more, but I had to know that Tori was safe first.

“I’m sorry mates, I’m sorry, but I have to go.” I whispered into the night.
