Illyana stood with both fists clenched tightly by her side, her skin taking on a reddish tint as the entire room was bathed in emergency lights, and she was glaring hotly at Dominik who was blocking her escape.

"Illy, I know this situation is far from ideal," Dominik was saying, his voice steady despite the tension that hung in the air, "But your safety is my utmost concern right now."

Illy glared even harder and if looks could kill, Dominik would be a dead man, "What the hell is going on?" She asked.

He took a breath, his gray eyes never leaving hers, "Illy, you're a key witness in our investigation. We're dealing with someone far more dangerous than you think. We can't afford to take any risks."

Illy's brow furrowed. "What risks? I've been safe for twelve years and suddenly I can't go home to my cat?"

Dominik's gaze softened, his concern evident, "The nature of our work, and particularly with the CRS... well it has been attracting some unwanted attention. For now we really don't know who we can trust with this information and your involvement makes you vulnerable. Your safety could be compromised if the wrong people catch wind of our plans."

Illy's gaze narrowed, "So I can't go home until we find the killer? That's ridiculous."

Dominik nodded solemnly.

"I can't do that," She said, shaking her head, "I-I can't be around him for so long. I-"

"It's only for a few days..."

Illy plopped down in her desk chair, her thoughts whirling, "So, what? Am I just supposed to hide out here indefinitely? Who's going to feed Charli? And water my plants? Who's going to bring Tanisha breakfast and what if Lex has nowhere to go?"

Dominik seemed like he wanted to embrace her when she started spiraling again, but he kept his distance, "You'll be staying in the penthouse until we conclude our business," His eyes were soft and reassuring as he spoke, "You're safe here but I can always open up my lake house and get you more protection if that would make you feel any better. And you don't need to worry, Illy. I'll make sure everything at your apartment is taken care of for the time that you're away."

Illy only stared at him, unsure of what to say.

"I understand this is a lot to take in," Dominik said, "But it's only a few days. Once we have what we need things can go back to normal."

"And what if I refuse?"

Dominik's expression didn't waver, "Illy, you have to consider the gravity of the situation. I'm sorry, but I can't allow any harm to come to you."

A heavy silence settled between them, punctuated only by the distant hum of the room's lockdown procedures and Illy's mind continued to race with questions.
