Chapter Nine – I Could Really Use a Wish
It was the first day back to work for the team after their two month break. The team had agreed to meet up for breakfast at the pancake house and go to work together.
Kensi and Deeks walked over to where they saw Sam and Nell sitting. "Hey you two. How was your vacation?" Kensi smiled as they hugged.
"It was amazing. The kids were thrilled that I was home, and somehow I was convinced we should take them to Disneyland." Sam smiled, sipping his coffee.
"Well, I spent the summer with my family... some of it anyways. The rest I spent here reading." Nell chimed in and they all started laughing.
Callen and Eric finally showed up about twenty minutes after Kensi and Deeks arrived and they were relieved that they could eat.
"We should do this more often." Callen smiled to the others as they nodded in agreement.
I, wish I, was strong enough, to lift, not one, but both of us. Someday, I will, be strong enough, to lift, not one, but both of us.
The morning passed by quickly, but the afternoon seemed to last forever. "Hey, they've requested you four down at the Navy base. The other team is nowhere to be found." Eric told them as he ran into the bullpen.
"Alright, let's roll." Callen grabbed his gun and the team followed him out to the cars.
Kensi climbed in the driver's seat of her car and sped off after Sam and Callen. "Kens, slow down, we're gonna get there and we'll find them." Deeks put his hand on hers.
She didn't hear him, her protective instinct was kicking in and they drove by an accident, where the other team were sitting, unharmed on the curb and they also saw Hetty. Probably giving them a lecture about more careful driving.
"Well at least we know why they didn't make it. But we've got to get there fast." Kensi said harshly and pulled up in front of the base five minutes later.
"Alright when we get there, G and I will evacuate the first floor, you two evacuate the second floor. The bomb is set to go off in fifteen minutes, go fast." Sam nodded and they ran into the building.
As Kensi and Deeks got to the second floor, they found it empty. "This is odd." Deeks walked down the hall with his gun up.
After opening every door and checking the room, they turned around to leave when a man in a mask jumped out in front of them.
Deeks flew at him and got in a few punches before the man had practically thrown him to the other end of the hallway. "KENSI RUN!" He yelled at her.
She turned back to where they'd come in but the man was too quick. He pulled out his gun and fired twice, both bullets hitting Kensi in the stomach, tearing right through her bullet-proof vest.
"KENSI!!" Deeks yelled and fired at the man, killing him before he ran over to her. "Kensi, stay with me. Hey... stay with me." He moved the hair from her face and put pressure where she was shot to try and stop the bleeding.
"Deeks... hey... remember what you made me promise in Hawaii? I'll always be here, no matter what. I'm not going anywhere. I promise." She managed to get out before she went unconscious.
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now. Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now.
When Kensi woke up, she looked around and saw Deeks sitting beside her bed. "Hey..." She smiled weakly.
"Thank God you're okay." He leaned over and kissed her forehead. "I was so worried." He rested his forehead against hers.
She reached up weakly and put her hand on his cheek. "I promised you that I wouldn't go anywhere. I don't break my promises." She laughed a little.
"Callen and Sam are in the waiting room with Eric, Nell and Hetty. They're all worried about you. Callen was able to disarm the bomb so we have bomb squad looking at it and the man who shot you is in custody. Am I forgetting anything?" He listed and Kensi put her hand over his mouth.
"Slow down. I just woke up." She moved over and looked up at him. "Will you lay with me?" She asked softly.
"Hetty still doesn't know about us though Kens; do you want to risk that?" He looked at her downtrodden face and felt awful instantly.
"Oh trust me, Hetty knows." Came Hetty's voice from the doorway and Kensi paled once again.
Deeks swallowed hard and Hetty couldn't help but laugh, it was a joyous kind of sound. "You know there's no rule against dating co-workers, I just don't want it to effect the way you two work together." She said firmly, but happily.
"It won't Hetty, I promise." Kensi smiled gently, reaching for the glass of water beside her.
"So how are you feeling Ms. Blye?" Hetty asked, sitting on the other chair.
"Well you know, my stomach hurts... but I'm alive so that's always a bonus." She looked over at Hetty, feeling Deeks squeeze her hand gently.
"I'm sorry to say this, but I'm going to have to put you on medical leave for a while. I trust Mr. Deeks can take care of you, and when he's at work Ms. Jones will work with him." Hetty smiled, patting Kensi's other hand.
"I understand Hetty, thank you." Kensi smiled and shifted a little in the uncomfortable bed.
After Hetty left, Sam and Callen came in to see her. "Hey Kens... glad to see you're awake and alive after Hetty found out about you and Deeks." Callen chuckled kissing her head.
"Oh shut up Callen." Kensi laughed and looked over at Deeks. "Honestly, if I was there alone, I probably wouldn't be here right now." She looked down for a moment and Deeks squeezed her hand again.
"Well we should probably head back, Eric and Nell want to see you then I'm sure you'll want to get some rest." Sam kissed her head as well and the two of them left.
It was about ten seconds until Nell and Eric came in. "Thank goodness you're okay!" Nell exclaimed and hugged Kensi carefully.
"Yeah, I'm fine... all thanks to Deeks." She smiled to him once again.
"Well we all wanted to get you something, so we agreed on a get well soon bear." Eric smiled and handed her the bear. "It was mostly Deeks' idea." He added.
"I love it. Thank you." She looked down at the medium-sized tan coloured bear.
Eric and Nell were now standing by the door. "Well we'll see you two later." They both waved and left the room.
"Okay now will you lay with me?" Kensi looked over at Deeks and he chuckled, nodding as he got under the blankets with Kensi.
"I'm so glad you're okay, I was so scared I was going to lose you. Lucky for you we have the same blood type and I let them use my blood for the transfusion." He kissed her head and rubbed her arm.
Kensi raised her eyebrows. "You did what?" She looked over at him, and then a small smile appeared on her lips. "Thank you for doing that." She kissed his cheek.
He smiled and looked at her. "Don't thank me. But now you literally have me in your veins." He chuckled and after an hour of talking, the two of them fell asleep.
Oh, you're in my veins and I cannot get you out. Oh, you're all I taste at night inside of my mouth. Oh, you run away, 'cause I am not what you found. Oh, you're in my veins and I cannot get you out.
