*thump*
I wake up to myself bumping into the ceiling
"Ow" I run my head in defeat
"You're up"-Joel
Well obviously...
"Hmm" I reply and look outside the van
"How long have I been knocked out?"
"4 hours"-Easton
Now is that I realize that this poor dude must have been suffering the whole van ride
I face him
I suppose it's because I'm on his lap but I'm too close to his face
I bring my head a little further away and position myself in a spot I'm not uncomfortable in
"You must've been suffering the whole way here huh?"
"Not exactly, you are really light"-Easton
"Oh ok"
I'm really light? That's a wonderful compliment to my ears
Getting away from my old thoughts, my new thoughts trail back to the view outside
"Where are we?"
Joel without looking at me, replies that we are currently in Pennsylvania and he is currently looking for the emergency shelter the radio was talking about
"Apparently there is an emergency shelter somewhere here, it's only temporary tho"-Elijah
"Why temporary? I thought the situation was bad bad"
"They said it was all under control and that the situation would calm down in two days at most" Elijah continued on saying
"But how do they know that?"
"They are using human logic. A dead body cannot last a long time reanimated. They are relying on that logic to determine results. I don't agree since first of all zombies isn't even humanly possible meaning we can't just use human logic to combat this"-Elijah
"I agree. What if the zombies don't "die" but continue on? What if like humans(and any other animal of course), they adapt, they evolve to the environment?"-Cassidy
"But evolution isn't quick"-India
"...using human logic it isn't...but those things aren't humans nor are they even alive."-Cassidy
"I know it's irrelevant but I'm sure you guys saw that new movie called, "Dead Rising"?"-Saanvi
Everyone agrees to having watched it, me included
"That movie depicts a zombie apocalypse that started due to an experimental leak and the lab's unethical testing on human corpses. The virus created a parasite which took over the host's body which tends to reside in the brain as the brain controls nearly everything albeit not working alone. Which is why in "Dead Rising", humans kill off the zombies by stabbing or shooting or splitting the head to kill off the parasite"-Cassidy
"What are you trying to say?"-Easton
"I'm trying to say that what if that's how everything started? What if it all was manmade? And what if, like in "Dead Rising", the government's efforts to control the situation does nothing? What if instead of diminishing the zombie population, it just increases day by day....I don't know about you guys but I don't think many people know how to fight zombies"-Cassidy
"Yeah, real life is different than the internet/virtual world"-Elijah
I've just been listening attentively before deciding to input my thoughts
"What if it's not the brain?"
Everyone including Joel looks at me
"What....?"-Isa
"What if, unlike what the internet says, it isn't the brain but rather somewhere else? Or maybe they can't be killed"
The others faces pale at these thoughts
"That's...that's really terrifying then"-Isa
"Yeah, we would be driven further into the dark than we currently are"-Easton
India asked me why I thought that
"Remember back in the apartment? When we were fleeing?"
The kids all nod their heads
"There was something bright blue at the very middle of their chest. All zombies had it"
The others all looked surprised while Joel and Cassidy's faced turned a sickly white
India was the first to notice their complexion
"What's wrong?"
"If what you said is true and if that's really the case then, I hope zombies don't remember faces nor scents"
I knew what they were talking about
That thing I saw walk out of their house
The others all looked visibly confused
"I told you guys I killed my mom right? I stabbed her in the head so I thought the ordeal was over but thinking back on it, I did see a blue light placed in the very middle of her chest. I thought nothing of it because unlike what you said about the zombies at your place, my mom's blue light was small and weak"-Joel
Cassidy turned to look at her brother
"Joel...when we were running to the group, I saw that mom's body wasn't where you originally killed her...I thought you moved her body so I didn't say anything"
Joel looked even more in despair
"I really hope zombies don't remember scents or faces cause...if they do....we might just have a zombie on our trail"-Elijah
(Author here.
I got the idea of the blue cores from a game called Lifeafter as well as the image above. And if anyone is wondering, I will not make Easton and Leandra get together. Two words. Keep watching:))
