—-Joel's POV—-
Things just got worse for us....
Snow started to fall
"You gotta be kidding me"-Elijah
"It is the start of winter"-Saanvi
"Does anyone know how to set up camp?"-India
"We do"-Cassidy and I say at the same time
"I was a Boy Scout and she was a Girl Scout"
The others started to gather wood and started shaving off some pieces of wood to make the campfire
Elijah starts rubbing two sticks of wood together but I stop him and show off the lighter that I took from my house
"I knew this would come in handy"- I let out a chuckle
I light the wood and the others come close to the huge campfire occasionally while working
A few minutes later the tents are up and running
There were two large tents (one for the girls and one for the guys)
The others and I made sure the wood was sturdy enough to handle the heaviness of the blankets before making a "mattress" and putting it down on the floor
After everything is done and the pillows are put down to represent each head (7 people in total)
They huddle near the fire with their coats on
"I'm hungry"-Elijah
"Yeah, same here"-Cassidy
"I saw some berries on the way here maybe we could it those?"-India
"What if they're poisonous? I'm not going to put just anything in my mouth...pause"-Elijah
Easton laughs which causes the others to laugh for a bit before the mood turns serious again
"Haha...but seriously, I know some plants that can be eaten but I was a Girl Scout a long time ago and my memory is just not the same"-Cassidy
"That's exactly why I didn't say anything, I don't wanna put anyone here in danger if I say something and it turns out to be harmful"
Looking at the darkening sky Easton says that they should just go to bed
The others and I agree and head to our respective tents
The others aren't sleeping but the constant grumbling and pain they experience from not eating a nutritious meal forces them to close their eyes and sleep
7 hours later
Easton shoots up awake (this is more of a narrators POV)
——Easton's POV—-
I hear something snap in the woods and wake up
I'm not a heavy sleeper either so it was easy to wake up
I wake Joel and Elijah up and inform them
Elijah dismisses Me and calls me paranoid but then opens his eyes and looks at me
Zombies exist, I'm sure Elijah forgot for a moment
The boys and I grab a spiked wood each that we made and head towards the sound
I know that's how people die in movies but I'd rather we discover it first then letting us find out as a surprise later
'Please just be a small animal'
I repeat in my head numerous times as the snapping of something continues
As we get closer we see what it is, it's a zombie
Unlike the zombies we encountered earlier at Lea's apartment
This zombie was incredibly slow
So slow to the point that if I got closer I'm sure it would bite towards me in slow motion
Of course this isn't a game so I didn't do such a foolish thing
"Are those chains?" Elijah asks which prompts me to look all over the zombie's body
I squint my eyes and see the reclection of something around the zombie's ankles
"Holy shit you're right"
"Why would there be a chained up zombie out here?"
Elijah asks the question we were all thinking
*Snap*
A twig snaps and we all look in the direction of the sound
The four girls all huddling together under the blanket
"What are you guys doing here?"
"We heard the sound too but we didn't know if we should wait it out or check it out" India says
"Yeah and when we decided to get out of the tent to tell you guys, you weren't there so...here we are" saanvi further added
"Well look what we found" I turn to flash the chained up zombie
"And look at its's ankles"
---narrator POV---
The girls look and they gasp
"Are those chains? Why is it-"
"Chained up? We don't know, we found it like this" Elijah interrupts Isa
"The more pressing matter is..why is it chained up near our camp? This couldn't have been here before seeing as how it's just now that we discover it" Joel says
"Are you saying that someone moved it here? Isn't that a bit far fetched?" Isa says
"No, the noise I heard that woke me up was a hard clink. Like someone shut the chains at" Easton says
"...that's so scary to think about. Someone could be watching us right now for all we know" Cassidy fearfully says
The group huddle closer together with some looking at the zombie and others looking at their surroundings
The silence is so deafening that only the whooshing of the wind can be heard
*Grumble*
Everyone turns to look in the direction of the sound
"Sorry...I'm pretty hungry" Cassidy says, embarrassed at the sounds her stomach made
This breaks the tension as the group breaks into smiles and slight chuckling at her cuteness
"For today move our tents so they are facing each other with little to no space. If anything else happens, we'll know" Joel says which everyone agrees to
They do that and head back to their tents to sleep off their hunger and fear
