---narrator's POV---

Joel carefully observes the area before taking a quick peak at the kitchen

He walks carefully before relaxing

Seeing him relax puts the others at ease. The kids carefully open the cabinets and fridge to avoid making a sound

4 minutes later~

They stack the cans of beans, soup, canned fruits, and rice they find

Cassidy heads over to the pantry

"Jackpot" Elijah says

They find cereal, jerky, honey and all other types of snacks in there

"Okay we can make this our shelter for however long we can stay here. No matter what, everyone has to be in groups, don't go anywhere alone, not even inside" Joel took the role of the leader which no one had any disagreements about

They checked every inch and every corner of that house and stacked what they could find

It was approaching noon after all that running and all the built up fatigue everyone had, they felt the urge to sleep

The two thin mattresses and thick blankets they were using before were left behind for some lucky traveler to stumble across.

They all placed whatever blanket they could find on the ground and a schedule was put into place

Group 1 which consisted of the guys would sleep first whilst Group 2 would sleep after

This system was mostly cause the girls chose to gossip and eat over sleep while the guys, especially Elijah was hungry for sleep.

Group 1 would sleep for 4 hours and they would rotate until any further adjustments were made

Cassidy who was busy watching her nails suddenly heard a sound

—-Cassidy's POV—-

*katchak*

'That sounded like a door knob turning'

I look towards the other girls and notice they nod their head towards me

We quietly and slowly move our way to the room all of us sleep in as the floorboards of this house creak a lot

We slowly turn the door knob and open the door
We gently wake the guys up to tell them about the noise

I whisper, "there was a sound. The sound of a doorknob turning, we all heard it. It must be from the first floor"

Joel nods at us before taking a chair and quietly put it against the bottom of the door knob

We all more or less have adapted to what the world has become so it's of no surprise that each of us was holding a weapon in our hands as we gazed intently at the door in front of us.

We heard footsteps

Footsteps that gradually grew louder and louder

"Stairs" Elijah Whispered

I gulped

"If it's human, they'll have a hard time opening the door because of the chair. If it's a zombie, I pray tell they don't have any intelligence" Joel whispered

My gaze went back to the door, specifically the door handle.

I gulped

I'm sure I wasn't the only one wearily watching the door knob, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one afriad
