Kenickie's Girl

chapter 3

Kenickie and I got to the drive in and he said "you looked very pretty tonight Ellie, really." I smiled and I said "thank you Kennick." He smiled at the nickname and bit his lip. I licked my lips and looked at his and we started leaning in but all of a sudden a tap on the back of the car made us get out of the car.

I saw a group of boys in some nice car flipping us off and shouting random dumb shit about having a rumble and Kenickie whipped out a pocket knife and they drove off.

I said "who the hell was that." He said "the scorpions, I hate them and their crater faced leader." I giggled and all of a sudden it got really awkward.

I said "I um..better get home before my dad kills me, I never even told him I was sleeping over at Frenchy's." I sobered up very fast at the idea of my dad seeing a boy dropping me home.

I needed to call home and have Ryan or Lucy distract him.

Kenickie could see the panic in my face as he drove off and he said "you okay?" He put his hand on my thigh and I felt butterflies. I tried to bite back my smile but failed so miserably.

I said "I uh need to stop at a pay phone and call my little sister to tell her to distract my dad." He said "okay there is one in this diner, I'll come with you."

We went into the diner and I went straight to the phone and dialed home. I prayed Lucy would answer. She's pretty smart for a three year old.

I heard a little voice say "hello?" I smiled and I said "Lucy is that you?" She said "Eloise?" I smiled and I said "yes it's me I'm gonna be home in like 10 minutes please find some distraction so dad doesn't catch me sneaking in or make up some plan, please."

She said "okay I promise only if you take me to the mall tomorrow." I rolled my eyes and said "fine, thanks Lucy." She said "bye." I said bye and hung up the phone.

Kenickie smiled and said "um how old is she?" I said "3 but she's helped me sneak in before trust me she's smart." As we walked out the diner he said "you're a great influence." I smiled and I said "shut up."

We got in the car and he put his hand around my shoulder again and it was so unbelievably hot.

I gave him directions to my house and as we drove off he said "So Eloise?" I laughed and said "stop, my mom named me after the book, I grew up in New York if I never old you."

He said "Me too, well my older sisters used to watch that stuff but I wouldn't know." I said "you so watched it with them." He smiled and said "no I didn't."

I laughed and said "sure."

We got there and I saw Lucy sitting there on the porch.

Kenickie said "nice house El." I smiled and the nickname and I said "thanks, and thank you for the ride home." He said "anytime, and sorry the scorpions had to ruin tonight." I said "it's alright."

I opened the door and walked up to Lucy who said dad thinks we went out to walk our dog Chicka. She's an adorable small blonde Pomeranian.

We walked in with Chicka in hand and Kenickie waved at us as we walked inside.

My dad was fast asleep on the couch and so was my mom. Thank god.

Lucy and I tip toed upstairs and she sat in my bed and asked "who was that boy?" I said "my friend Kenickie." She said "friend?" I said "yes why?" She said "he looked at you more than how I look at my friends."

I said "Lucy, bud out okay." She smiled and said "okay, good night." She kissed my cheek and I said "Love you, thank you."

She smiled and said "love you too."

She closed my door and I got up and turned off my light. I smiled as I brushed my teeth and got into bed. All I could think about was tonight.

Having fun at the pep rally until Riz had to ruin it of course. But hanging out with Kenickie was something different. I couldn't stop thinking about him.

I almost forgot to call Sandy but I did. She picked up and said "Ellie?" I smiled and said "hey Sandy I got home all good and in one package." She laughed and said "good, I was worried about Kenkickie's driving." I smiled and said "oh no, he's actually a good driver..." We both burst out laughing.

I said "well, I better get to bed before my parents hear me, but good night Sandy." Sandy said "good night Ellie."

I hung up the phone and crawled into bed with Chicka and fell asleep a happy girl.
