Kenickie's Girl

chapter 4

It's been two weeks since the pep rally and I haven't really spoken to Kenickie. I wasn't avoiding him or anything like that I was just really busy with cheer and helping my mom out with Lucy after school that I barely even had time with my girl friends.

However I had noticed that Rizzo had been acting strangely nice towards me lately and I knew she was being fishy.

She was asking me questions about when Kenickie and I went to the drive in and acting fake happy that Kenickie and I had hung out alone.

Rizzo says "so, you think you have the hots for him?" All the girls and their judgey stares were sent to my side of the lunch table. I said "um I don't know we are just friends."

She said "well you guys hung out alone?" I said "okay and, just because I hang out with a guy alone doesn't mean I like him in that fashion Rizzo." She said "anytime anyone of us hung out with a guy alone, we all did it for one intention." I banged my hand on the table and I said "it was not like that Rizzo we are just friends damn it!" I could feel the redness from my face spread to my chest which is something that often happened when I felt overwhelmed.

Some people in the surrounding area looked over but I gave them a nasty death glare and they looked away.

It was awkwardly quiet until Frenchy spoke up and said "well since it's Friday I was thinking we all go to the diner tonight." Sandy said "sounds good to me." Rizzo said "okay, as long as someone doesn't start banging on tables."

I gave her a nasty glare and I said "as long as we don't act like immature drama queens, I'm down." I felt my hands getting into fists and I settled down.

I decided to finish the rest of my lunch somewhere else.

With the guys.

I walked up to where they sit on the bleachers and I threw my bag down and I sat down and crossed my arms.

Sonny was in the middle of saying something when he said "hey Ellie are you okay?" I said "just peachy continue your story." Doody said "even your eyebrows look angry." I laughed and I said "well, sorry it's just the girls are being annoying."

Danny and I were still kinda tense since I called him an asshole but he deserves it.

Danny said "what's new, they're so immature." I said "yeah and you acting like another person when your friends are around is star student behavior."

He rolled his eyes and he looked kinda sad. I said "I'm sorry Danny, it's just you were rude to Sandy and you know it." He said "can I talk to you alone?" I said "yes Danny  ...finally something clicked up there."

I grabbed my stuff and so did Danny and we walked to some other part of the school. Danny was gushing his feelings to me about Sandy. How he has to keep up his rep of being "bad" and dating "a bad girl." I tried to be nice and I actually was.

I said "Danny, it's not about what your friends think of you, or what the scorpions think of your girl, it's about who you like and the heart wants what it wants, don't push it off because you're afraid of what people think of you, I mean as a model I can't care what people think of me."

He said "you model? what a minute, isn't your mom Michele Bernardi?" I said "Danny is that all you heard?" He said "no sorry." I said "you might have to do some chasing since she is talking to one of those gumdrop jocks, but I'm sure you could win her over."

He said "okay thanks for the advice." I said "no problem, but also too, we are going to the diner tonight so 'surprisingly show up' and try to talk to her." He said "okay, I will, is that jock coming?" I said "maybe, not sure, just come either way please."

He said "okay, but seriously are you Michele Bernardi's daughter?" I smiled and said "yes please keep that low key."

He put his hands up in surrender and said "okay okay I will." He gave me a hug and when he did I saw Rizzo looking our way and I rolled my eyes at her and Danny pulled away.

He said "see ya tonight." I said "bye Danny."
