Charlie didn't even text anything.
When Nick heard about it, he was definitely not very happy about it.
"Everything alright, Nicky?", asked Sarah.
"No, mum, not at all. Apparently I am not allowed to ask my boyfriend to Prom cause only straight couples are allowed to go."
"What? You can't be serious, Nicky"
"It's true, just heard about it from Sai. So if I'm supposed to just ask a random girl, I'm not going. The fucking Prom can go to hell"
"Words, Nicky! So are you just gonna give up then?"
"What else can I do?"
"That doesn't sound like you, dear"

Cause Nick knew Charlie was not at his best at the moment. They've talked about it before, he experienced some hard periods from time to time. Mental health issues are so hard to deal with sometimes, and Charlie had gotten better, and stronger, and just the bravest person Nick had ever known. But now, he wasn't feeling very much like that. He tried to hide it and pretend everything was fine, but they were so close to each other at this point that Nick just knew.
Nick wasn't Charlie. He didn't have to deal with all the stuff Charlie had to deal with, he wasn't even sure he'd been able to get through it as bravely as Charlie did. And Charlie usually knew what to say to him when he was feeling down. He wished he'd be the same.
Charlie was the most important person in his life, and he had to help him as his boyfriend in the best way he could. Both of them got in their head at times, but they just did it in a different way. And sometimes he wasn't always sure how to approach him or how he should act to confort him and make him feel safe and loved as he definitely was.
