SWEET, DANGEROUS WATERS

Thema was granted access to the lake by the council. And it seemed that no one, except for her, dared to chance a touch at its seemingly fresh water. But as she took in the whispers of it, she tentatively lowered her hand into the lake.
The blue light from the water glowed against her face. She nearly gasped at the feel of it. It was like the stars had landed there and bled out, their blood feeling cold and crisp.
She suddenly was given some flash of a vision. Red blood, screaming. Fallen crowns, and a ringing.
War, and something much worse.
She retracted her hand as if the water had stung her and wiped away her tears.
This was a vision she refused to believe. She willed it not to be real.
