Three Years After You Left Konoha
You stared into the night sky and lit a cigarette., you weren't old enough to smoke yet, but it was way too easy for someone like you to sneak into a store, take some, and leave some money on the counter. You knew it was bad, but it helped reduce your stress. Lately, you'd had a bad feeling that couldn't shake, and your stress levels were acting up. So, here you were, smoking.
Right now, you were somewhere on the outskirts of the Hidden Leaf's territory. You had finished your business in the sand a few months ago, and had gradually started making your way back to Konoha. Not that you knew when you could return, though.
You huffed out the smoke and leaned on the railing. You felt a chakra behind you, but didn't turn around.
"Mrs. Y/N."
"Hm?" You looked over your shoulder. A man with a Leaf headband was kneeling on the ground. "Oh wow, a Leaf shinobi! Haven't seen one of you in... what, three years now?" You walked over to him and examined him. "You must be pretty new. I don't recognize you or your chakra."
"Um, yes, I am relatively new."
"You a jonin or chunin?" You took another puff of your cigarette and leaned down to look at him.
"A chunin, miss. But, please, I have a message for you."
"Oh yes, sorry." You extinguished the cigarette and threw it in the trash. "What do you need?"
"Lord Hokage is summoning you back to the village."
You did a double take and stared at him. "Seriously?"
"Um, yes. He wants you to help supervise the upcoming chunin exams."
"Does he, now?" You looked down at the man. "Stand up. You don't need to kneel in front of me." He stood up hesitantly. "Now, tell me the real reason he wants me back." You crossed your arms and stared at his eyes.
"I wasn't told all the details. However, Lord Third told me to say it's related to your first teacher if you requested more information..."
You clicked your tongue and stepped back. "That damn snake," you mumbled to yourself. You lit another cigarette and looked back at the man. "Do you always get this flustered? It seems unfitting for a shinobi, y'know."
The man's face turned pink. "Umm, I'm just not used to... uh, women staring at me so intensely."
You laughed. "Is that your way of saying you get no bitches?"
The man flinched. "That's a harsh way of putting it."
You chuckled. "Well, you're a cutie. You'll find someone eventually. Anyway, thank you for the message. You can return now. I'll be there as soon as possible." You hopped over the railing and ran silently to your hotel room.
After packing and checking out of your room, you went to a secluded area and changed into a ninja outfit. You also put on the mask that you used during assassinations. Then, you dashed back to Konoha.
*this is what I image your ninja outfit being, it will probably be your main outfit. if you don't like it, you can choose whatever else you want, this it just what i imagine*
A day later, you stood at the gates of Konoha. You removed your mask and stood a ways away from the gate, unsure of what to do. You started to reach for a cigarette, but stopped yourself and walked past the gates. Thankfully, it was nighttime, so the streets were empty. Immediately, a kunai went to your throat and you were stopped by two shinobi.
"Halt. Confirm your identity."
"Y/N."
"Last name?"
"I don't have one." That was true. You were never given one, and you didn't know your clan. You had always just been "Y/N."
"What is your business here?"
"I was summoned by the Hokage."
The kunai left your throat. "We will escort you to his office. Follow me."
The two shinobi led you to the office and let you enter the room alone.
In the room, you kneeled down. "It's been a while, Lord Third."
"Please, don't kneel. I've kept you away from the village for so long, and I understand you may have lost some respect for me."
You stood up. "Please, don't. I respect your decision. It was good for me." More or less.
The Hokage nodded. "Well, back to business. As the messenger should have told you, I would like your help supervising the Chunin Exams this year."
"Yes, he did. He also mentioned Orochimaru."
The Hokage sighed. "I'm concerned he's up to something. That's why we need you here, in case he attacks. The Chunin Exams would be a perfect time for that."
"I understand. When do they start?"
"In a few weeks. In the meantime, you can mostly do what you please. I'll keep you in the village, just in case. Make sure to be on your guard and watch for anyone suspicious. Also, I'm sure you have a lot of catching up to do. The shinobi who brought you here will show you where you'll be staying. I've already taken care of your living arrangements." He handed you a stack of folders. "I would read through these tonight. It's nothing super important, but it will get you up to date. You're dismissed."
"Thank you, Lord Third." You walked out the door and the two shinobi brought you to where you'd stay. It was a relatively large, two-bedroom, two-story house with a balcony view of the village.
You whistled as you walked around the house. "This is way nicer than where I used to live," you said to yourself. I wonder where Sasuke lives now? You thought. Would he live with you again if he knew you were back? He's probably used to living on his own by now.
After exploring the house, you walked into the master bedroom and flopped on the bed. "Ahh, it's so comfy~" You unpacked your things and showered, then looked at the papers the Hokage gave you. You lit a cigarette while you flipped through them. It was just reports and unimportant things that had happened. One thing did catch your eye, though. Sasuke and Naruto are on the same team? And it's led by Kakashi, too. You chuckled. He must have a fun time with that. When you finished flipping through the pages, you laid down and tried to sleep.
After three years, you were finally back in Konoha. And you might have to see Orochimaru again soon. You sighed. Probably going to have a nightmare tonight, but I might as well try to sleep.
