Chapter 10

A Few Days Later

Today, instead of training. You decided to impulsively rearrange the furniture in your house. By the time you were satisfied with how it looked, it was already late afternoon.

You sighed and flopped down on the couch. Moving around furniture all day was almost as exhausting as training. You made some tea, grabbed your book from the coffee table and started to read.

After a while, you heard a knock on your door. You set down the mug and walked to the door. Through the peephole, you saw an anbu member. You opened the door and looked him up and down. "Yes?"

The man bowed. "Lady Y/N. Lord Hokage summons you."

You blinked. "Um... okay. I'll be there soon. You're... dismissed, I guess?" The anbu nodded and quickly disappeared from view. Lady? Since when do I have a title? You stood there for a second before closing the door and going to change. I guess I must be pretty famous in the village or something. Jeez, what happened while I was gone? You changed into your anbu outfit and dashed to the Hokage's office.

"Come in."

You walked in the door and bowed to the Hokage. "Lord Third."

"Hello, Y/N. I called you here because I realized we forgot to discuss something."

You straightened your back. "What would that be?"

"Whether you will stay in the anbu or not." The Hokage folded his hands infront of him.

You blinked in disbelief. "...I have the option to leave?"

He looked at you. "I am well aware that being in the anbu does nothing for you but bring up memories you'd rather forget." He suddenly chuckled. "And, it would be an issue for you to get your orders from Danzo. I'm sure you'd want to slit his throat the entire time."

You laughed nervously. "That might be the case, but I've learned my lesson." You paused. "What would I do instead of being an anbu?"

"You would become a jonin and receive your orders from me. You'd receive similar missions to what you did the anbu, so most likely A and S rank infiltrations and assassinations. Since the threat of Orochimaru still stands, you'd start missions well after the chunin exams are over. Because of your skills and experience, you'd be the captain in most of your missions. I realize it will be different from the missions you would do alone in anbu. You can use the time you have before your missions start to meet some of the other jonin and chunin who could be on your squad. Of course, I'd like you to focus on the chunin exams and Orochimaru. Is this accepatable for you?"

You were speechless. After all these years being an anbu, you could finally leave? You smiled slightly as his words started to sink in. "Yes, sir. I accept."

The Hokage smiled. As unprofessional as it was, he had to admit he wanted to get back on your good side. He really had enjoyed your company before everything had happened and he made you leave. You were a precious Konoha ninja to him. Besides, leaving the anbu would be good for you, like it had been for Kakashi. "Good. As of today, you are a jonin of Konoha. You're dismissed."

You nodded and walked to the door. You paused with your handle on the door. "Lord Third?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you." The Hokage smiled and nodded his head.

As you hopped from roof to roof, an grin spread across your face. It felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders. You had been dreading the atmosphere of the anbu and seeing Danzo again. Now, you didn't have to worry about that anymore. Being a regular ninja would take some adjusting to, but you were glad, nonetheless.
