You jolted upright in bed. Your body was tangled in the sheets and you were covered in cold sweat. You looked over at the clock, which read 4:26 AM. You sighed. The sun hadn't even risen yet. Reluctantly, you walked to the bathroom to shower.
You walked into the kitchen in a robe and slippers you found in your closet. The Third Hokage was treating you well, considering he kicked you out of the village three years ago for being unstable.
You watched tiredly as the coffee dripped down into the mug. Normally you'd make your own coffee, but there was a convenient coffee machine in your new kitchen that you decided to take advantage of. At this point, you didn't care how it tasted. You just wanted coffee. And caffeine.
When the coffee finally stopped dripping, you impatiently grabbed the mug, some creamer and sugar, and a book. (what kinda book😏)
A cool breeze flapped the fabric of your robe as you sat down on your balcony. You blew on your coffee, and took a sip. You hummed pleasantly. For instant coffee, it was pretty good. You grabbed your book and started to lazily read the pages, but you couldn't focus on any of the words. Sighing, you put the book down.
Stupid fucking nightmares. Your current coping mechanism was to drag your ass out of bed, shower, make some coffee, and read a book. Who needs therapy when you have caffeine and books, right? Sometimes, though, it didn't help. On the really bad days, you would smoke, but you tried not to when the nightmares weren't that bad, like today. So, instead, you looked out at the village as the sun rose into the sky, and sipped your coffee.
A few hours later, you had changed into your ninja outfit and were preparing to leave your house. (your ninja outfit is the same one as the picture in the last chapter, or whatever you chose.) You walked up to the front door, but stopped and instead started pacing around. Funny how you didn't think twice about taking a life, but this was giving you anxiety. You smacked yourself in the head. What kind of ninja were you? You shook yourself and tried to calm your nerves. It didn't work, so you gave in and lit a cigarette before walking out the door.
As you walked through the streets of Konoha, you tried to blend into the crowd, almost hoping that no one would recognize you. None of the ninja or villagers knew why you had left, as far as you knew, but you felt like they were all going to look down at you. Like they had when you first came to the village. You shook your head. You weren't here to remember bad memories. You walked through the crowd and made your way to where a chaotic group of four was supposed to be training today.
You perched on the edge of a building and watched as Kakashi talked to his three students. Naruto turned his head away, pouting. A girl with pink hair, who you assumed was Sakura, started yelling at him. Sasuke looked ticked off. You chuckled at the sight. You extinguished the cigarette and threw it away. Probably not a good idea for any of them to see you smoking. You jumped into the grass below, silencing your fall with your chakra. You walked to the group, masking your chakra and your footsteps. Kakashi started talking to the group again, then sighed and gave up as they started to bicker again.
You chuckled. "I don't know what your sensei's telling you, but you should probably listen to him," you said, smiling.
The group turned in your direction, surprised. The girl just looked confused, but the other three froze and stared at you.
"Hello," you said. "It's been a while."
Naruto was the first to break out of his trance. "Y/N nee-san?? Is that you??" He ran over and hugged you. "You're back!!"
