"WHAT THE HELL IS SHE DOING HERE?"
"She is right here, you asshole." Tatum crosses her arms, standing next to her friend.
Gemma was taken aback by his words, and the fact that he looked away almost immediately. Shaking her head she decided it was not time for this, Tatum looked at her friend who mouthed 'not now' to her.
"So this is why you haven't answered any of my phone calls and texts?" Jeremiah says angrily.
"Did you not hear what I just said?" Conrad's voice was full of frustration "We're going to lose this house. Mom's house."
"Why would your dad sell this house?" Gemma asks cautiously.
"He's not. Our Aunt Julia is." the older boy answers, not spearing a glance in her direction.
"Susannah's sister?" this time it was Belly who asked.
"Half sister." Jeremiah completes.
"Apparently, the house belonged to the both of them. And then when Mom..." Conrad stops, looking down "Now Aunt Julia owns the whole thing, so..."
"Okay, we'll just call Dad and figure something out. That's it." the youngest Fisher says.
"You think I haven't already done that? He says legally the house is hers."
"Okay, then he'll buy it."
"He doesn't have the money to buy it." Conrad sighs. "Between Brown and the medical bills and the..."
"Yeah, I know how much the medical bills cost because I was there." Jeremiah bites back, the room was silent for a while. "How long did you know about this and not tell me?"
"Jere, this was all happening so fast. I was going to tell you after I'd taken care of it." Conrad passes his hands on his hair, stressed.
"And this is you taking care of it? Going AWOL, ditching school, not talking to us." Jere scoffs, looking at his blonde friend who simply shakes her head at him.
"Fսck school! I don't care!" the oldest boy angrily exclaims.
Gemma was shocked with his temper and his words, months ago he would call her out of the blue just to tell her how excited he was with his studies. But she understood what he meant, he was doing all of this because of his mother. Losing her really affected him.
"Connie, you have to go back or you'll fail your class." Jeremiah tries to reason with his brother, but he fails.
"How are you going to become a doctor if you fail out of college, Conrad?" the words leave Gemma's lips before she can hold them back. For the first time since she arrived, Conrad looked at her, and she wished he hadn't.
