Steve's POV
We arrived in the late afternoon at Memphis. The Quinjet landed and we split into groups: Tony and his group went after the allies, my group after Deathstone, and the rest stayed on the Quinjet.
"Hey, shh, I hear something," Clint said, (A/N: pun intended,) whipping out his bow as Pietro and I stopped walking and looked around. An echo formed, and so did the body of the cloaked, darkhaired teenager with the green stone around her neck.
"Hello Avengers," she said with an echoey giggle. "Pietro, how nice to see you again...kill you again...though we both know it didn't take much, did it? Just a scream into your sister's mind, and your life nearly slipped away into my necklace."
"Yeah, well, it's unfortunate you won't be killing anyone anymore," he said cooly. Clint's arrow was pointed straight at her.
"Hm. Right. Now, be good boys and kneel to me, so I don't have to take the life out of you. It would be a shame, really. I'd hate to see all of your pretty eyes go blank." She sped to Pietro's side. "Thanks for the powers, love," she said in his ear, and he winced, shoving her away. "They're really handy, except they make your hair turn white. Damn. At age fourteen, I've already started getting white hairs...and I liked your hair better when it was dark, the same as Wanda's. But nevermind that, this isn't about the fact you've made my hair go white, it's about how you left me and potentially I could have died."
"Oh, big deal," Clint said, rolling his eyes, "Okay, I see how it is now. Little March had a crush on Pietro, and when he and his sister left to do good for the world, March got experimented on. She blamed that on them leaving, when if you think about it, she most likely had it coming whether the Maximoffs left or not."
"Shut it, Barton, or I'll crush every bit of life in you and your precious family." He froze and she smiled suddenly. "Oh. Oh, I see, how marvelous, you actually do have a family! How cute...a wife, a few kids, one of them isn't even two. I'll have to come for them after I kill all of you. Pietro, be sure to thank your sister for me, will you? For giving me her powers?" He sped to punch her, and she swung back at him. The two were moving at supersonic speeds, hard to keep up with while watching.
"Stark, Banner, anyone there? Anyone on comms?" I asked.
"I am," Vision said. (A/N: okay, pun intended there too. Sorry.)
"So am I," Sam said.
"Yeah," Tony said, "So what's happening with you?"
"Quicksilver and Deathstone are having some sort of speed showdown," I said. "You have eyes on the rest of the Soulthieves?" No response from Tony's team.
"It seems they are no longer able to contact us for whatever reason," Vision said.
"No, I'm here. Banner, still safe and sound?" Natasha asked.
"I'm fine," Bruce said.
"Stay that way," she said, and sounds of fighting, grunting, and hitting came through the earpiece. Pietro suddenly knocked Deathstone over.
"You didn't see that coming?" He asked her, kicking her hard in the side, and she cried out.
"Pietro, I'm sorry," she said, looking more like a child than she ever had before. Pietro lifted her up in his arms, carrying her tightly.
"You aren't getting away this time," he said, "Wanda, location?"
"I am just near the Quinjet, to the left with Tony and Sam. Why?"
"I have Deathstone, and I need you to try to release everything and everyone in that stone," he said, and I nodded at him. Deathstone sobbed.
"You aren't going to try to kill me, are you?" She asked, "It's me, remember? March? I'm your friend-"
"You are not March. You are Deathstone," he roared at her in a voice I'd never heard him use, so harsh it made Clint jump a little. "You are a murderer and a thief and you are ruthless-"
"But you can't kill me!"
"I will," he said in a promising voice, carrying her and speeding away. I shuddered, shaking off the fact that she was just fourteen years old. I looked over at Clint, who looked pretty shaken.
"Why did she let him take her so easily?" I asked.
"I don't know, and I don't like it. She knows about..." I nodded.
"She won't go to the farm, she'll be dead soon. It doesn't change facts that I think this is a trap. One minute she's intimidating, the next he knocks her over and she has a total meltdown, letting him carry her away to her death."
"Tony, need help?"
"We've captured Leopard Flame, but we're going to need Vision's help for Quin Doll and some backup for Camo."
"Clint and I will meet you there to help find Camo," I said..
"On my way as well," Vision said.
A/N: There's a dark side to the Maximoffs, as you're about to find out.
