THE HOTEL IS AN ENDLESS PLACE OF MISERY.
At least, that's what Yui felt after what seemed like an eternity of doors. Door after door after door... would this ever end? Yui sighs. Door 037, Door 038, Door 039... half the doors were dark. Yui was beginning to dislike the darkness.
As she opens the next door, Door 040, the lights flicker. Dashing inside, scanning the room... Yui finds no closets. Shit. This had to happen, didn't it? She retreats backwards, checking the previous room for a closet. And... there! She finds one– just in time, too, as she hears a horrible noise. She leaps inside, slams the doors shut, and leans back, covering her ears. The entity– Rush, probably, judging by the black smoke– passes. Hide doesn't come into existence behind her, because she yeets herself out before he can annoy her with his snarky grin– which she can't see, but she can hear it in his voice.
Now backtracking to Door 041, where, unfortunately, the room is dark and requires a key, Yui thinks about Eyes. She doesn't trust the lady in white at all. Why were all the entities so pretty, anyway? It's like they all had Siren blood in them. It was so unfair!
She completely, totally ignores the fact that she made two– yeah, Yui doesn't start small– of those insanely gorgeous entities blush.
Flicking open a lighter, she rummages in the multitude of drawers for a key. The room is large, and there are even side doors. Before long, Yui is starting to feel a chill.
"Where is the keyyyy.." she groans, unhappy with how this is turning out.
*twinkle*
"..huh?"
*twinkle twinkle*
"Spirit... is that you? I hope it is."
"Yeah..." Spirit sighs. She materializes on the other side of the room, lighting it up with a blue glow. It's comforting. Warm. But paired with the darkness, it only makes the shadows more creepy. "The key's here."
"Thanks," Yui says with a bright smile, walking over. "You seem down, though. Why's that?"
"..." Spirit gives Yui a bombastic side eye.
Then a criminal offensive side eye.
Then averts her eyes, because yes.
"Eh? What have I done?" Yui cocks her head to the side, an eyebrow raised innocently.
Spirit doesn't fall for her shit this time. She huffs and crosses her arms, tilting her head away ever so slightly. The glittery mesh which adorns her arms and waist sparkles, bathed in her own light.
"???" Yui seriously doesn't know what she's done wrong. She's overly perceptive when it comes to others, but profoundly dense when it comes to herself.
"..forget it, just grab the key." Spirit softens. She's a kind one. Someone you can't help but trust.
"Okay." Yui skips over to where Spirit floats, and pulls open the first drawer in the set of three.
"BOO!" Something leaps out– how could something fit in there??– and suddenly Yui's vision goes dark. It stings a little, but it isn't much– Yui has been stabbed before with a rusty knife in a Denny's parking lot.
"...ow," Yui deadpans, blinking a little. She's got a high pain tolerance from all that shit. Her vision clears, and she's able to make out–
"OH MY AEONS! IT'S A SPIDER VAMPIRE CHILD MUTANT!!!!" Yui squeals, emphasising the four exclamation marks. She lifts the smol bebe in her arms, forgetting her previous tiny pains. "LOOK!!"
The spider-vampire-child-mutant in question was small and lightweight. With tiny pointed fangs, pale skin, and dark hair, the child did resemble a vampire a lot, but the reason Yui added 'spider' first were the three pairs of cherry-red eyes. The child was outfitted in a kind of loose, stretchy clothing that resembled a kimono, with a crimson sash around the waist. Its sleeves were long, and the pants were poufy, and the child looked adorable in that combination.
Yui has a soft spot for children. She grew up surrounded by lots of them, and learned to take care of her 'siblings' at an early age. It's required, really, when you live in an orphanage– the knowledge of kids, and how to handle them. It's given her considerable strength, great speed, agile reflexes, and short reaction time. Pretty good, if you ask her.
Spirit blinks. "Uh, I don't think you're supposed to.."
"Hi little guy! You're adorable!" Yui coos, ignoring the glowing spirit. "What's your name?"
"Tee..mo..thee!" the child says in an adorable baby-accent. "I.. am.. he!"
"Pronouns too!?" Yui gawks at the small child. Even adults usually forget to offer their pronouns, you gotta ask them for it– but here's this tiny child giving it without a prompt! "You must have a good mom, Timothy– and that's a very nice name!" Yui nods, holding back tears of dying-of-cuteness-here!! and succeeding– for a little bit.
Well, maybe not.
But +points for trying?
"...you name... Yoo-e?" asks Timothy, distracting Yui completely.
Cue a vigorously shaken head from Yui. "Yep."
"You.. mommy!"
"YE– wait, what?" Yui stares at the small child with a raised eyebrow. "Can you, uh, go back to that point?"
"Mama talk about you. She.. seem.. fond. So you mommy!" Timothy smiles, a toothy, adorable grin. "Wanna play, mommy?"
"I– ofcourseimyourmommymychildiloveyougimmeahug!" Yui sniffs and holds out her arms, making a mental note to ask Timothy about his mother later. "I'll get the adoption papers. Your mom will just have to share your adorableness for now."
"Yay!" Timothy hugs Yui around the midriff. He's short, so it's the best he could do. Yui deflates like a popped balloon, and curls her arm around the small child– hoisting him up smoothly– and adjusting him a little so his arms are wrapped around her neck, and her hand lays comfortably on his back.
Yui nearly squeals as Timothy buries his face in her golden-brown hair. "You hair.. smell.. good!" He giggles and sniffs. "Like.. choco."
Yui smiles and rubs circles in a comforting manner on Timothy's back. She then announces, "I've only known you for about a minute, but if anything happens to you I will first kill everyone in the room and then myself."
Inside, Spirit was a little shooketh, because Yui did look like she would make good on her threat. And she also had the weapon to do it.. a neatly placed, easily reachable dagger, right there on her thigh. "You what," deadpans Spirit, ignoring the weapon, because she was a spirit– it probably couldn't harm her.
Right?
Yui flinches harshly at the sudden interruption. "Damn. I forgot you were there."
"I wonder," says Spirit in a flat voice. "Are you gonna progress?"
"Sure," shrugs Yui, smoothly picking up the key from the open drawer and walking over to the door. With a *click* it snaps open, and the lights remain stable.
"Bye, Spirit!" Yui waves with a single hand and a beaming grin.
Spirit cracks a little smile. Yui looked really funny. "Bye," murmurs she, as the soft blue glow fades.

Yes, I live *insert rising-from-hell-emoji*
I'm deeply sorry for the break in updates, I had a lot going on (*cough* exams *cough*) and I was unsure how to introduce some characters.
Let me tell you, I cannot-- I repeat, CANNOT-- wait for Yui to meet ✨ THE MOTHER OF THE CHILD(E)✨ formally, and my personal favorite, Halt! I've planned out something very fluff for those two and they just might be my favorite pairing! They're so cute! *squeals*
The chapters are probably going to get longer.
