Chapter 3

Akana POV

It was a fine sunny day but some of the students were either busy or away on a mission. And I being alone under a tree.

They were on the training grounds where Shoko was trying to balance on a log that was lying there. It sort of looked as if there was a competition on who was more balanced between Shoko and Utahime.

"What are you doing sitting alone?" I looked up to fine Suguru looking down at me.

"Oh nothing much, Suguru. Does watching the balance competition count?" I says.

He just chuckled and asked if he could sit with me. As I nodded my head.

"Suguru, did you not get any mission today. Otherwise you'd be with Gojo right?"I asked looking at the girls, shoko was trying to make utahime fall.

" Aah i see. You are that happy to send me off?" He playfully asked leaning on the tree. Their shoulders touching.

"W-what no! I didn't said that?! I mean.. That sounded better in my head. But you know what I meant-" I turned my head to see that he was staring at me with an asoftly smile. And I playfully smacked his arm, but that was a bad idea. It hurt.

"You were just messing with me and now my hands hurt"

"Well i didn't ask you to smack me, now did i?" He softly chuckled taking my hand in his.

" May I?"

" I-it's alright.. I was only exaggerating." I tried to stop my flipping stomach but didn't take my hand away.

"Mhm you were hurt because of me right. What kind of a person will i be, if i didn't take care of you." He rubbed my small fingers with his thumb slowly.

I looked at him and our eyes locked. There was a change in atmosphere between us that the both of us couldn't deny.

As I shyly looked away after what felt like hours but it was only a few seconds. Sitting beside eachother holding hands with him who looked at me with an unspoken passion made the butterflies in my stomach flutter.

After a few seconds Geto looked away from me, not to make me feel uncomfortable. Beating of hearts can be heard as the two teenagers took small tentative steps towards a section that was new to both of us. We were silent for a while, neither of us wanting to let go of the tiny moment.

"Oii Akana!! Wanna try?" Our hands scrambled to our sides as we heard shoko calling. "Oi Geto when did you get there"

The two of us walked towards the girls. " I've been here for a while. I'm not surprised you didn't notice. Good morning Utahime."Geto shook his head and greeted her.

"Wahh why can't that idiot learn something from you. One should be polite to their elders." Utahime said looking at Geto and he just shrugged.

"Is this the log you were playing with?" I said as I was trying to stand on it.

"Yes, why don't you try moving with it." Utahime gave her the idea that she was trying to do.

"Huhh that's a bit hard Utahime. Can you show me a demonstrate?" I got down the log for Utahime to climb.

"Give your best Akana and don't fall again!" Shoko hyped as I was carefully rolling the log. On getting the hang of it, Utahime started tracing a small irregular circle but the speed got slightly out of hand and I was out of controll.

"Shoko turn your wheels!! Stop coming after me!!" I yelled as I was running for my life.

" DO YOU THINK IT'S IN MY HANDS!! And stop running in front of me!!". Akana! jump at the right moment" Shoko called out to me.

Geto was so done with them but he was used to this. He sighed as he went ahead and pulled me to his side, my nails slightly grazing his arm and quickly caught utahime from smashing into the tree they sat under earlier.

"I think that's enough for today. " I sighed as I realised how I ran like an idiot in front of Geto.

"Yeahh let's get some drinks from the vending machine" The two girls walked ahead and they all headed inside the building.

"Suguru." I walked over to him as he watched me slightly fidgeting with my hands on the sides. 

"What is it Akana?"

"... Thank you for helping me just now." I looked at him with a soft smile that was enough make his heart flutter.

"It was the bare minimum Akana. You don't need to thank me for that" he smiled back.

"It's not that bad to appreciate small acts too you know. It makes people happy. Are you not?" I says.

He chuckled. "I am. And it's good that you think like that. We can balance each other".

Even though he said it so casually, it made the corners of my mouth upwards.

It was almost midnight. I were supposed to coming back home with the girls and brought them favorite snacks for them. After I come back to abandoned shrine to see them. As I inside and noticed the girls some drawing on the paper.

"Hey Nanako! Mimiko! I'm home now and I brought some your favorite snacks that I found in Tokyo." I warm smiled at them.

Mimiko and Nanako made a big smiled on their faces when they see me. As they run up to me and gives me a huge.

"We missed you, Akana." Mimiko says softly.

"I missed you two, did you two well behaved while I was gone?" I asked them with playfully.

"Yes! We're very well behaved. We have some surprise for you." Nanako replied.

"Oh, what kind of surprise is it?" I asked.

"Wait here." As the girls run off to find a gift for me and comes back to me as they showed their drawing pictures of us.

I placed my hand on my chest where my heart is as I says with awe. "You two made this drawing for me? you two are great artists thank you. I'll keep for my treasure."

I used my both hands on top their heads and stroking their short hairs. They gives me a bright smile on their faces. ' I do want them to have a happy life with humans in the future... I'll protect these smiles from my whole life...'
