—CHAPTER SIXTEEN: JUST THINK ABOUT IT
###
"YOU SHOULD tell him" Gwen shrugged as she took her spoon and took a scoop of ice cream from Alyssa's tub.
Alyssa pulled a face at the girl. "One, get your own ice cream. Two, telling him is a huge step. I just came to the realization I like him" Alyssa argues. She wasn't wrong. Telling him was a huge step. Like 4 steps ahead. Alyssa hasn't even came to believing that she let her self fall in love with a boy she was trying to push away.
"Yeah you're right, it's one hell of a step but I think you need it" Gwen advised. Why was a fifteen year old even giving her advice. "You keep distancing yourself from people. Which isn't a good thing. Even having the courage to talk to Hobie again is something but actually telling him what's up will feel way better" Gwen continued explaining.
Gwen was right too. Alyssa needed this. She liked the feeling of what she had with Hobie, she liked how he made her feel.
"But what if-" "he rejects you? Then you'll be able to name your reason for blocking him out. It'll hurt a bit, but it won't be as much of a struggle of shoving all of your feelings into a closet in your mind."
Alyssa thought for a bit. Fuck, why was everything she saying right. She hated that she had no reason for blocking him out. Well she does, she just doesn't like it. It was simple fear. Alyssa hated it because that's all she was. A girl who feared the world and its people. That was exactly what was behind her facade and what's behind a facade is supposed to stay there.
Though, just like her only reason to push Hobie away is fear, her only reason to deny Gwen's advice is fear.
So Alyssa opened her mouth to keep on pushing away the advice, but Gwen noticed. "Sleep on it at least Alyssa, please?" Gwen cut Alyssa off, looking at her with those fifteen year old pleading eyes. Alyssa groaned as she looked away from Gwen. "Fine I'll sleep on it" Alyssa said as she got up from the bed and gathered the snacks.
Gwen smile at Alyssa, content that she would at least think about considering her advice.
"Night A" Gwen called as Alyssa reached the door. "Goodnight G" Alyssa called back as she turned off the light and slid through the girl's door.
Alyssa listened to the soft thuds of her feet as she made her way to the kitchen to place the food back to where they belong.
The night was silent and still. The lights were off for the most part, the only lights being the turned on stove light and the light from outside that seeped though the windows. Everything was quiet, the only sound being her movements to put stuff away and the sound of the clock counting minutes. The quiet started to feel too silent, like everything was expecting her movements and she couldn't shake the feeling off. So she decided to play music the fill in the noise.
She took her phone from her pocket and leaned onto her counter as she scrolled through her playlist on Spotify to choose a song. Though as she didn't know what to pick and just needed to get started on the dishes she choose to just press shuffle and let Spotify choose for her before placing it down.
Alliyah's 'One in A Million' started playing gently, filling in the sound of standing silence along with the sound of running water as Alyssa started the dishes.
"BABY YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DO TO ME, BETWEEN YOU AND ME I FEEL CHEMISTRY"
Alyssa found her mind wondering to Hobie and Gwen's advice.
"Tell him"
Suddenly she couldn't hear the music, only the words. It repeated on a loop. Like her heart was begging for it and somewhere in her mind was liking the idea too. Though Alyssa ignored the pleads of her heart as she gently scrubbed the dishes. Though she found her eyes trailing along her counter, landing on the watch.
"Tell him"
Her eyes stuck in the watch as he couldn't look away as she felt her heart stretching towards it. Suddenly she felt her arm move and grab it.
"Tell him"
She attached the watch to her wrist. The click of it seeming to echo and let the reality of what she was doing sink in.
Suddenly Alyssa was nervous. Is she sure she wants to do this. Is she sure she needs to do this. Now everything was all scary. Alyssa was always bad with confrontation.
Gwen's words started filling her ears about how she needed this. It could help her, put a reason on pushing Hobie away. But Alyssa was starting to think that reason doesn't matter to her anymore. Her mind filled with all the ways Hobie had made her feel before she pushed him away. How she always felt a feeling she was familiar with disappear.
With him there was no loneliness. No fear. No sadness. Just excitement, entertainment, and satisfaction.
So Alyssa's hands trailed to each number on her watch and pressed in Hobie's earth, watching the glowing portal start to illuminate her kitchen.
