(Bachisagi) Sunflower's Melody

Chapter 1

"Isagi.. Isagi!. Isagi wake up!!"

"Huh?!.." I jolted awake as I heard someone screaming my name in my ear. God, my poor eardrums. Rubbing my eyes, I yawned and faced the person on my right who so politely woke me up.

"Took you long enough.. Do you have any idea how many times I attempted to wake you? Bet you haven't even had lunch. Anywaysss lunch break started half an hour ago so make sure you eat. Oh yeah, I came here to tell you Coach Ego said we're having a team meeting after school in the field..." He stopped talking, flipped his long pink hair and shot me a look before snapping his fingers in front of my face to get my attention.
"Hello? Earth to Isagi. Are you there??"

"Yeah yeah.. meeting after school, football field." I mumbled trying to prove I was at least paying some attention. He deeply sighed and continued

"Since Bachira isn't here, you're gonna have to tell him alright? Remember that! Byeeee" He went out as soon as he finished. I took a good look around the room and came to realize Bachira really was nowhere to be found. Well.. since lunch break is almost over anyway, I'll just walk around outside to get some fresh air. I went out and found myself heading towards the stairs leading to the rooftop. There's no better place to get fresh air at school I guess. The moment I stepped outside, I heard a voice calling what sounded like my name. It was quite a muffled sound but I looked towards the direction which that particular sound came from.

"Isagiiii!! Heyy" It was Bachira.. He shot a bright smile at me and gestured for me to come towards him. I walked to his direction and sat down beside him. He was eating bento and I found out immediately why his voice was muffled just now.

"Hmvf you eafen yeft??" I could still make out his words and quietly shook my head no. His face scrunched and looked at me with a face that he called his 'angry face' which clearly didn't look like it. "Mmhsagiii.." he took a big gulp and talked clearly this time. "Why haven't you eaten yet? Here.. share my lunch with me." He picked up a sushi roll and put it in front of my mouth. "Open up. Say Ahhhh" I tried to refuse it and avoid his food but it didn't even last long. He smiled with a sense of accomplishment and shoved food into his own mouth.

"Nexx time.. donf try to resist"

"Bachira don't talk with your mouth full" He then swallowed his food and chuckled.

"You don't want me doing that? I'll stop if you accept this." He held more food in front of me and I just accepted it. I looked away after he placed it in my mouth and I heard him laughing. "You'll eventually get used to it" I turned to face him and he smiled that sweet smile at me again. I couldn't help but smile back, even if it's just a small faint smile. "Oh! Was that a smile?? Isagiiii!! Show me again! Did I just manage to make you smile??" I quickly turned away once more and ignored all the questions he blabbered on about. "You really should smile more Isagi.. it really suits you." I wasn't sure if I heard him right so I asked "Huh?"

"It's nothing! We should probably head back to class." He packed his things and stood up and we started walking back down. We were walking in complete silence and I was the first one to break it.

"Oh yeah! I almost forgot. Chigiri told me coach wanted to have a meeting after school by the field later."

"Hmm.. is that all?" He asked.

"Well.. thank you." I said in a voice so low it seemed like I was talking to myself.

"What was that?" He said with an innocent look plastered on his face but the grin gave away the fact that he heard what I said as clear as day. "I said thanks, you idiot." "For what?" I sighed as he was always so oblivious about things. "You're always so caring towards me.. Thank you." He then smiled and said "Well, that's what friends are for isn't it?" "Yeah.. friends" We went back to class and I practically dozed off until our last period. Bachira woke me up and we headed to the meeting.

"Isagiii! You want ice cream? My treat."

"Sure."

We were walking home together and passed a convenience store along the way. He really does act like a kid sometimes. I watched as he went inside and came back a few minutes later with two ice creams in his hand. He smiled and handed me a cookies and cream one. "It's your favorite" I took it from his hand and started unwrapping it. "Thanks, Bachira" A little while later, we had to part ways. We said our goodbyes and I walked home alone.

"I'm home!" I called out and headed towards my room upstairs. I flopped down my own bed and stared at the ice cream wrapper in my hand. I gave a deep sigh and rolled over burying my face in my pillows. What the fuck Yoichi?! He's your best friend.. of course he knows the little things about you.. I lifted up my head and stared into space. That's normal, right?.. Holy shit Isagi cut it out. Why are you having thoughts like these about your best friend?? Pfft.. I'm not gay!.. Fuck.. Am I?? I went down, ate dinner, went back up and decided I should take a shower to cool my head a little. I stepped in the bath and turned the shower on. "Even if I was into guys.. he isn't." I don't know why but whenever I remember things like that I don't feel quite good about it. It's like there's a knot in my stomach and it makes me feel so horrible I want to throw up. Weird, huh? I still remember that one time we were having lunch outside. A pretty girl with long brown hair walked by and smiled at him. He looked so starstruck.. so mesmerized. I acted like I wasn't paying attention but then he said something that made my heart sink down to my stomach. "Woah.. she's so pretty." I stared and went quiet like I didn't even hear a word he said.
God, why do I even care? I'm nothing but his best friend anyway.

I got out the bath, changed, and went to bed. I was about to fall sleep when I saw my phone lit up. I looked at the screen and opened my phone. It was a message from Bachira.

I stared at the screen for a while and I didn't notice the smile forming on my face. I slept well after that. I can't wait to see him again tomorrow Friday.
