Hidiya's pov
5 more days until Marla's birthday party. I'm super excited! Though I helped Marla pick her outfit for the party, it didn't even cross my mind to find me something cute to wear.
I asked the girls in the group chat if any of them wanted to join me. Rosi and Cam said they couldn't. Marla says she wants to but her mom is making her do last minute party planning. But lastly, Gabi said she'll go!
So I'm currently waiting for her at the double doors at school.
She comes out saying,
"Hey Diya."
I waved.
"Ready to go?!" She says with a huge smile. I smile back at her an nod.
It will take us about 10 minutes to get there. So I decided to listen to my mom's advice.
You should probably check on your friend.
Me
"Hey Gabi, has everything been going on okay?"Gabriella looked at me surprised.
She looked at her phone to text.
I interrupted her by talking.
"It's okay to just talk to me." I say with a small smile.
"OMG! Hidiya you talked!" She stopped walking and clutched onto me in surprise.
I smiled.
"Yeah I started to talk a little while ago. It's still a little weird so I may be quiet at times but don't tell the girls. I want to surprise them myself!" She nodded.
"I just can't believe it! Your voice is gorgeous. Why'd you keep it to yourself? You don't have to tell me but I do care about what might've made you not want to talk." Some guy squeezed past us on the sidewalk.
"I'll tell you. But let's keep walking so we don't get in people's way" I say.
She laughs. "Yeah let's keep walking."
We continued walking.
"I stopped talking because I was bullied about how I sounded. People would call me mouse girl and-" thinking back to it. People were so mean that they did so many out of pocket things to me that made me not just hate my voice but myself.
I had to stop walking. We were at the very front of the entrance of the mall. I couldn't stop my tears from falling thinking about the terrible things that have happened to me.
"Omg! Hidiya, are you okay?"
Gabi held onto me quickly with worry filling her eyes.
"I-I'm fine. Sorry I just had some bad memories come back to me."
"No no it's okay Hidiya, you don't have to tell me what happened!"
"I trust you. I was bullied really bad. People would push me onto the bathroom. Or try to push my head into the toilet. I-It was so bad that my parents had to consider home schooling me."
Gabi pulled me into a tight hug.
"Hidiya I'm so sorry to hear that. You're voice is beautiful. It doesn't sound like a mouse at all. I'm actually jealous of how pretty it sounds. It perfectly fits you."She says nudged me with a small laugh.
I laughed along wiping my tears.
"Demetrius told me the same thing."
"Wait is he talking too?"
"Yeah. His voice is so cute." I can just feel my face warming up.
"Omg you're so cute! I know you guys are dating but you're soooooo into him. Who knows you might be in love." She says giggling.
I laugh
"I don't think so. I've never been in love."
"From the looks of it. You are. You probably just haven't experienced it. If you're not in love than you're definitely falling for him."
"But how do you know that. How am I supposed to feel?" I ask her.
"Honestly I'm not sure myself. I'm engaged to Theo but I'm scared to like him." It immediately reminded what I asked her earlier.
"Is that why you've been a little down. I've always been wanting to ask you if you were alright. Is everything okay?" She sighs.
"I'm fine I think. I've been in a constant battle with myself. But I feel like Theo is a great person. But I can't get myself to open up to him because I don't think he'll ever understand. My parents haven't really treated me like they treat my sister. They make her feel like she's on top of the world. Like a princess. But I don't think they care about me as much as they do her."
"Hm maybe Theo can help you with that type of care you need. I know exactly how you're feeling. Just a week ago, Demetrius had to kick my dad out of the house because he tried to hurt me. He never cared about me. He never treated me like his own child. Turns out he was cheating on my mom with another woman."
"Oh no Hidiya you didn't deserve that at all! Are you okay? We're you seriously hurt?!"
"No luckily, Demetrius was able to stop him before I got seriously hurt. That's why that one day, I had to go to the nurses office.
"Omg I remember that. Josiah just told us you fell from being too clumsy." I laughed.
"That's definitely something Demetrius would tell him!" Gabi laughed.
"That's because you're like the clumsiest person I know!"
"I'm not!"
"Hidiya you definitely are!" We both giggled then finally went into the mall.
