After the events of the Champions League, the girls were on holiday for a month for a rest, though Jonatan was extremely disappointed in their loss, the head coach respected their health and knew that a break would be a great benefit to the women.

The coach was already planning on their comeback in the next Champions League, ready for revenge.

Valerie was currently spending the first week of her holiday travelling back to England, to see her family and reunite with her friends.

Though she didn't like to admit it, the blonde had abandoned her friends and family while in Barcelona, contact slowly died out and she only messaged Leah to congratulate her on a game.

"I miss Barcelona," The blonde groaned to her older sister as she looked out the window of her apartment in London, it was currently raining and they had stayed inside all day.

"I can tell you missed me," Leah rolled her eyes, knowing that her sister didn't mean any harm by it. The Arsenal captain observed how her younger sister seemed happier, and more tanned.

"I didn't think about you once," Valerie joked, patting her head which earned her a hard glare from Leah, "I really do love it there, the sun is just a bonus."

"Do you love the place, or the people there?" The older of the two smirked, taking notice to how a blush appeared on her sister's cheeks as she faced towards the television.

"I've made good friends there, if that's what your implying." Valerie glanced sideways at Leah, who was nudging her with her foot teasingly.

"You want to be more than just friends with someone..."

Ever since Valerie had arrived three days ago, her sister had been teasing her mercilessly about Alexia, it became her favourite topic.

"I don't know what you mean, Lee." The blonde denied, occupied with her phone when Mapi sent a selfie of some of the girls, her eyes instantly locked onto the familiar eyes of Alexia looking into the camera.

Valerie looked closer as the dark circles under her eyes were prominent, she knew that the captain hadn't gotten much sleep since the loss at the final.

Leah had walked in on Valerie facetiming her captain late into the night, as Alexia had found comfort in hearing about what the Brit had been doing on her holiday so far.

This made Leah even more suspicious.

"You're worse than Lucy, you know that right?" The younger sister gasped dramatically, holding her chest. She did feel offended that she had been compared to the woman, after all she and Keira were going through a tough time because Lucy struggled with commitment.

"Hey! Lucy has a girlfriend, as far as I know I don't."

"Twitter would disagree," Leah cackled, revealing her phone screen to edits that fans had made of Valerie and Alexia, "Barca Queen and Queen." The Arsenal woman mocked as she read the caption, repeating it once more as she noticed the deep blush on her sister's cheeks.

"That doesn't mean anything. Remember when the fans thought me and Jill were dating? They were heartbroken when she and Jana went public."

The Brit was speaking about her friend Jill Roord and teammate, Jana Fernandez. They went public a few months ago, which caused the entire WSL to go into chaos, they were ecstatic yet not surprised for another couple.

"Maybe you should listen to the fans, little bird." Leah spoke, a gentle smile overcoming her features as she stared at her younger sister who crossed her arms in denial, "Follow your heart."

After the week had ended, Valerie had finally arrived back in her apartment in Barcelona, everything was untouched and the same as when she had left it. A sullen feeling clouded her thoughts, as she came to terms with her loneliness.

Valerie began to realise that there was no one for her to come home to, no one to cook food with or dance with. The Brit had only been in love once, after that she became closed off and unwilling for a relationship.

Deeming that a relationship was a distraction. Or so, she deluded herself to believe.

Her phone broke her out of the trance, the blaring screen irritating her eyes.

Lee
Think about what I said.

Valerie
That I'm like Bronzey?

Lee
Point proven.

Their conversation ended like that, and Valerie was left alone in her large apartment once again. Her eyes travelled over the empty walls, and sealed boxes she hadn't yet gotten round to unboxing, mostly due to her own laziness.

Suddenly, Leah's voice appeared inside of her brain, Follow your heart. Valerie rolled her eyes as she imagined her sister smirking, as she scrolled through her contacts until it stopped at a familiar contact:

Captain Annoying

"Don't make me regret this, Lee..." The woman threatened before pressing down on the name. On the second ring, Alexia's voice sounded through her phone.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"Seriously? You don't have me saved." Valerie tried her best not to sound offended, suddenly feeling humiliated that she thought it was a good idea to ring the woman who had been occupying her thoughts.

"Valerie? Sorry... We usually call on Instagram, I didn't think to—" Alexia panicked, feeling the urge to slap her head at sounding like she didn't care about the blonde.

"It's fine. Erm—I was wondering, if you're not busy, if you would like to come over?" Valerie felt a strange feeling enter her chest, one that she hadn't felt since her ex-girlfriend. The Brit ignored the fact that she felt more nervous now compared to the past, partly blaming it on the fact she was speaking to La Reina.

She also chose to ignore how Alexia's breathing rate picked up and her footsteps haltering in the background. Valerie ignored many things that Alexia did, otherwise it would mean she cared

Which she didn't. Or so she thought.

"Si...I'll be there in ten." The captain informed then ended the call abruptly, causing Valerie to groan—already regretting listening to Leah, wishing she had done what she usually did. Ignore everyone and avoid feelings.

"Mierda." (Shit.) The Brit cursed as she noticed the mess around the apartment, trying her very hardest to hide piles of clothes and threw the dishes into the sink.

Nine minutes later, there was a quiet knock on the door yet the noise echoed through Valerie's mind, biting her nails nervously before opening the door slowly revealing the woman she swore to hate, the alien, captain annoying.

Alexia Putellas.
