Amy and I were sitting on the seashore a bit away from Jack and Evelien, waiting patiently for news on Jack. They started preparing the potion early this morning after yesterday when Evelien announced that she finally figured out the recipe. I was still nervous because anything could go wrong.

"It's alright, Mark. Evelien got this," said Amy as she put a hand on mine on the sand.

"I know, but still. A lot of other things could go wrong," I answered, looking out to the endless sea before us.

"I'm still here, am I not?" she smiled and sat closer to me to lay her head on my shoulder. "If she could successfully turn me into a human then I'm sure she will succeed with Jack as well."

That's true. Once we all agreed to stay together back in the forest we still had to find a place to stay at. We headed to the sea only becasue back then Amy still needed water to stay alive. As we walked along the sea shore and she followed us swimming in the water we found an abandoned little shack not too far away form the water. That's where we decided to stay, but only for a while. We were still wanted and staying in one place for too long could be dangerous. We decided to stay, but only to deal with Amy and Jack's situation. Once Jack is back to human as well we would leave, maybe even leave the island and find somewhere safer where nobody knows us.

After we settled in Evelien immediately started working on a potion for Amy. Her situation was more urgent since she had to stay in the water constantly while she was still a mermaid. After only three days though Evelien declared that she figured out the right recipe and that they could try it out immediately since she had all the ingredients. Amy didn't hesitate. She wanted to become human as soon as possible, but I had my doubts and fears. All of those were pointless though becase the potion was fine. Amy's fishtail split into two legs right in front of our eyes and beside that the process didn't take that long. Once she had her legs she stood up, shakily at first and she almost collapsed too, but I caught her. She steadied herself then started walking towards the water. At the endge she stopped and took a deep breath... the moment of truth. But when she walked into the water nothing happened, she stayed human, which meant that the potion worked and now Amy was fully human. After that successful change Evelien started feeling better and more determined that she could easily figure out the potion for Jack as well. It took a bit longer that the mermaid potion but eventually she said that she had the right recipe.

"You are right," I said as I leaned my head against hers. "You are here and I am the happiest man on the face of the earth that it worked. Because now we can be together. I just... I'm worried that..."

"That Jack wouldn't make it and Evelien would have to live the rest of her life without him," said Amy, finishing my thoughts and she snuggled closer to me. "You are right, that would be devastating."

"He deserves a good life too. Both of them," I continued and she just nodded. "He's been through so much and... it just wouldn't be fair."

She nodded again in agreement then we sat in silence just watching the waves. Even though she is not a mermaid anymore I realised that she still loves the sea. She would come down to the shoreline and just walk around, listening to the water and the wind but other times I would catch her going for a swimm even. Without a tail she had to learn other ways to do so, but no matter what she would still enjoy being in the water. I'm sure she misses her family too even though she wants to pretend that she doesn't. I get that she is happy here with me, she constantly reminds me of that, but she definitely misses her sister and she regrets the way she parted with her father. I even proposed the idea to her that we should visit them, but she reminded me that her father didn't want to see her anymore, so it wouldn't make a difference. She said that she just wanted to simply forget all of them, the whole kingdom because she wasn't happy there and it wouldn't worth the effort to fix something that wasn't fixable. So the topic was dropped, and instead I did everything I could to make her forget them.
