Closer to the shore

We were swimming between the rocks when we were finally out of the cave. What I saw actually amazed me. The water was clear and in a light blue colour while the sun was brightly shining through, lighting the bottom of the sea. The colour of the corals shined as well and it was truly a beautiful sight. Amy watched my expression, then with another smile, she started swimming with me again. We swam by a school of fishes and they were happily swimming around us before they continued their way. I looked back at Amy and I gasped at what I saw. In the sun the yellow scales on her tail were like little diamonds and all the colours were dancing on it as she swam. Her hair was gracefully floating behind her and her figure was moving just as gracefully. She looked back at me and smiled at me.

She was so beautiful and I started feeling something inside me. Maybe this is what love feels like? My father always told me that when the time comes I'll find the perfect one, who is meant for me. Maybe I found the one? But it's not right she is a mermaid. It's a foolish thing to think about that she would come with me to the land, leaving her life behind. On the other hand, I can't stay here either, Jack needs me and my friends would freak out as well if all of a sudden I just went missing. No... Amy was right. We shouldn't have met.

"So, about your friend" started Amy so I tried to swim next to her. "What is he like? You said he is a half-dragon. What is that?"

I looked around and tried to find an easy way to explain this to her when I saw a group of fishes which kind of looked like a dragon in its body shape.

"Look at this," I said as I stopped near them and Amy looked at me.

"Seahorses?" she asked confused.

"Yeah. Imagine this fish a lot bigger and scales on its body. Without fins, but with four scaled legs. It has big wings like birds, but it's covered in scales too and not feathers. And it breaths fire out of its mouth." I explained and Amy looked both interested and scared.

"Dragons are dangerous," she said.

"Well, I thought that too. Until I met Jack and I realized that not all of them are dangerous. In fact, they are friendly and they care about each other."

"So why were you two flying through the sea?" she asked as we started swimming again.

"We were heading to the Irish Isle to find a witch who can change him back to human. And to get away from the king's soldiers too. They want to kill Jack, just because he is a dragon."

"But you said that he is friendly," said Amy and she didn't understand why would humans hate him if he is not harmful.

"Yes, but they can't see that. All they see is that he is something different. Humans are always afraid of those who are different. They think that because you are different you are dangerous. They are scared of him and don't even want to know him better."

"That's sad," she replied and I felt sadness just thinking about what happened with Robin and how he sacrificed himself for Jack.

I just nodded in response then we continued our way in silence. I was constantly looking around and now that I'm here I'm not afraid of water that much. I'm still afraid of drowning though because it can happen, but the sea is not as scary as I thought. It looks like this is really the biggest problem with humans, we are scared of something therefore we don't want to know anything about it. A few minutes ago I was scared of the sea, but now I think someone has to show the humans that we don't have to be afraid of everything unusual or different than us.

"Amy!" I heard as another female shouted and Amy froze.

We heard the same voice again and Amy was panicking. She looked at me and we started swimming in the other direction. We swam behind a bigger rock and she turned to me.

"Whatever happens, don't come out of here, okay?" she asked as he grabbed firmly on my shoulders.

"But" I started, but she interrupted me.

"Please!" she said with pleading eyes so I just nodded, then she gave me another seaweed. "If for some reason I wouldn't be able to come back."

I took the seaweed, but I looked back at her. I didn't want her to go. I would be lost without her

"You have to swim that way," she said and pointed at the direction I have to go. "The shore of the Emerald Isle is pretty close, you will be there in no time."

"Amy!!!" shouted the female voice again and Amy was about to leave, but I grabbed her arm.

"Please don't go," I said and she smiled at me.

"Everything will be okay," she said and then she gave a kiss on my cheek. "Now go."

I slowly released her and watched her as she swam away. I watched her until she disappeared in the distance. I wanted to swim where Amy told me I should go, but I couldn't. I looked back at the direction where Amy went and I decided to follow her. I saw as she stopped so I quickly hid behind a nearby rock. Then I saw as another mermaid swam closer to Amy, she looked older than her. Her tail was red and her fins were like Amy's but in red. Her black hair was in a bun and she had a tiara on her head.

"Where were you?" asked the other mermaid. "I've been looking for you for hours now. Dad is frustrated and panicking."

"I'm fine Avery. I was just swimming around," said Amy. "Just playing with the fishes."

"Dad is worried." said the other mermaid.

"You can tell him that I'm fine," said Amy and wanted to swim away, but the other mermaid stopped her.

"You need to come home if you don't want dad to send the royal guard and the whole kingdom after you." said the mermaid and this made me curious.

"I will don't worry," said Amy and freed her arm from the other mermaid's grip.

"You know what happened to"

"Please, can't you just leave me alone? I know exactly what happened you don't have to remind me whenever I leave the palace. It's enough for me to hear this from dad." shouted Amy and it made the other mermaid back away. "Are you finished? Or is there anything else you want to bother me with?"

The other mermaid didn't say anything, just watched Amy's cold expression. When Amy saw that the mermaid won't say anything she turned away and crossed her arms, waiting for the other to leave.

"Just come home before sunset," she said and swam away.
