"Get on my back!" said Jack and without questioning, I got on his back.
I didn't know why though, but I soon understood what he was about to do when he extended his wings. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders tightly when he started flapping his wings. At first, he almost fell back on the ground, but he got control back just in time and we were still in the air. As he tried to move forward we soon ended up flying above the water leaving the safe land with the soldiers behind. I closed my eyes because Jack wasn't flying that steady still and I was afraid that he might drop me. I could hear the soldiers' footsteps behind us and a few arrows passing by us, but as Jack moved forward we soon lost them leaving everything behind.
"It's okay, I get this under control," said Jack to assure me, but I was still squeezing his shoulder from fear. "I just haven't used my wings for a while."
"It's fine," I said, but of course I was still a little bit afraid and he could probably hear it from my shaking voice.
I slowly opened my eyes when I felt that we were flying safely. I took deep breaths to calm down and get relaxed, but as I looked down below us another kind of fear took over me. I tried to shook it off as well but it was hard. I knew though that Jack would help me for sure if I fell. The silence fell in between us and as my arms were around Jack's shoulders I could feel his heartbeat with my hand. He was probably still upset. I knew this was hard for him... He lost his best friend and now he is probably scared that he won't see Robin again. But there was this other thing with that name. Seán... Was it Jack's real name? Understandably, he changed it, so he could disappear more easily.
"Seán?" I was curious though so I asked him and waited for his reaction.
"Nobody called me like that since I left my homeland and Linda," he said quietly and it was barely audible as the wind was blowing.
"Did Linda give this name to you?" I asked, but he didn't answer.
I was about to give up because he clearly wasn't in the mood to talk about this. It was understandable, but I was curious. I knew one half of the story... I felt as Jack took a deep breath then he answered.
"It means a gift from God. She said I was lucky that she found me because I would be killed like my parents," said Jack. "A group of hunters found our cave. They went to the bishop immediately who of course didn't tell it the king. He attacked us."
He stopped talking again, staying in silence. I didn't want to ask him anything else either, because it was probably hard for him to talk about these things.
"Why did he do this?" asked Jack and I heard his voice crack as he thought about Robin. "I'm not that worthy. Why does everyone who I love have to give their life for me? I'm a monster who doesn't belong here. I should die instead of them."
"No, don't say that," I said and he just shook his head. "I probably don't know the right answer for this, but I know they have a reason. They love you too and they don't want you to get hurt."
"But I don't want them to get hurt either," he mumbled and looked back at me as far as he could. "I'm sorry that I dragged you into this."
"It was my choice," I said as soon as he finished his sentence. "I could've handed you in, but I didn't. Because I believe that you are not a bad person like they say. And I was right."
"Were you?" he asked back, looking at me again and I knew what he meant.
"Hundred percent," I answered and I saw that he was relieved.
I know after what he'd been through was tough, but he had to see that he was really worth it. And I will try my best to make him see that especially now that Robin is gone. They probably asked him all the questions about Jack. He won't talk though, so he will end up on the stake as Jack did. I don't even want to think about it.
All of a sudden we heard thunder, so we both looked back behind us. Black clouds were in the sky and it was fast coming towards us, so the storm would reach us before we could land. The wind started blowing stronger, it soon started raining along with the thunder. I was panicking that we will fall into the sea, so I grabbed onto Jack's shoulders tighter.
"Don't worry," he said because I think he felt my fear, especially since I held onto his shoulder's tightly.
"Jack, please don't drop me," I said and I closed my eyes once again because I couldn't look down from fear.
"It's okay. I won't," he said, but I was still scared.
"I think I forgot to mention that I'm afraid of water," I said, closing my eyes tighter and my heart beat faster in my chest almost as if it wanted to leave my body.
"Don't worry! I said everything will be..." suddenly thunder interrupted Jack and a bolt of lightning struck right next to us.
Jack fell out of balance as he tried to avoid the next one, but the upcoming one unfortunately stroke into Jack's right wing. He became unconscious from the hit and we started falling. I fell off of his back and fell beside him, but I couldn't think and I felt like I would pass out at any time. We were falling straight into the water the last place I'd be. As we disappeared under the waves I tried to get back to the surface, but I couldn't. I saw Jack as he was sinking, and the darkness slowly consumed him until he completely disappeared. I was determined to go after him, but I couldn't. I started feeling as my throat tightened, I couldn't breathe anymore and I was choking on air. My view became blurry and I felt as I slowly fainted until all I could see was darkness.
