A few minutes passed and Niki and I were ready.

The two of us left at 8 on the dot in order to get there a little bit earlier that everyone else. The others were to join us a little later, before 9, when the trial would actually start.

On our way there, my mind was racing like never before.

I felt my body tense as the cold wind hit my face once we stepped outside of campus. I felt my shaky hand being intertwined with Niki's, who lightly squeezed it. It was becoming a habit. Every time I would be stressed, he would try to reassure me by doing gestures like this.

"Everything will be okay." He said warmly but I just gave him a small nod, not feeling convinced. "Think about the fact that you will see your grandparents after so long." That made me smile a little. I really did miss them. I took a deep breath and continued walking.

Before I knew it, we were already there. We looked around, trying to find the room where the trial would take place and, after another few minutes, we finally found it.

When we entered, we were searched by an officer to make sure we didn't have any weapons in our possession. As the whole procedure took place, I saw my parents enter, glaring at everyone present, before taking their seats, just like me and my boyfriend did. Letting go of Niki's hand, I walked up to my chair with my head up hight. I couldn't afford to look weak in front of my parents anymore. It was time for a change.

Before the judge came in, my lawyer came up to me and we discussed everything over again.

"We have the video as evidence and also the witnesses, your grandparents, correct?"

"Yes ma'am. And my grandparents should be arriving any second."

"Alright." She was about to walk away but she turned around and told me something that gave me a boost of confidence that I didn't know I needed. "And, don't worry, this case is already won. Just remain respectful and collected the whole time. Answer truthfully and don't panic. Trust me." She gave me a reassuring smile before checking to see if the video was playing without any problems which it thankfully was.

Soon, my grandparents arrived and so did the boys but... without Jake...

I tried to keep calm and not stress about that as well even though I couldn't completely ignore how hurt I was. It's true that me and the boys only knew each other for a few months but they already felt like family. And one of them not being there in such an important moment really broke my heart.
