"Don't you understand my love?" She asks, taking out the instrument like freeing a caged bird.
How twisted.
Suddenly, lights snap on through the city, and the stars seem to compete with man made hope.
"Its pretty." She gasps, and I look at her. I looked, at, her.
"Yes, it is. Is this what you wanted to see?"
She gets up, plucking at the strings and picking up her bow. "It wasn't that I exactly want to see it. I wanted to do something you wouldn't." She gazes out towards the sky, and I suddenly feel curious.
Her hair sways, and she's suddenly gorgeous. She's almost unreal, and I'm afraid she'll turn into mist and float away.
"I'm sure you would understand. I don't try to get close to people who don't interest me. Being relived to know you're the same as someone else...is stupid."
I agree. But I don't understand why. The light sways and makes her clothes look alive, and I think I get a clue.
"I want to resist going along with all those perfect people. Maybe not everyone...but you get it, right? That sort of crazy feeling." She asks, turning to me again.
I smile a little at the hypocrisy of it all, and nod. "Yeah. I get it."
"I know how you feel. Sienna..." She's walking over to me a bit too fast and my heart is in time with her steps. I try to back up, but a tree holds me there, prisoner.
She moves my hair out of my eyes, and my heart climbs up into my ears and behind my throat.
"Haze." She blinks, keeping her hand on my forehead. The wind picks up, and her hair sweeps out in time with her little blue skirt and loose shirt.
"Haze. I want to become special. I don't want to become the same as others."
That would be impossible, anyways.
She runs a finger down the bridge of my nose, over my lips, and let's her hand fall to her side. "That's why I play violin. That's why, I need you, the beautiful bird, to sing one last time. To become special."
You already are.
My heart thumps, and I almost get sucked in. This is the moment, the first time I felt I wouldn't mind losing my life.
The stars seem to loose the battle, and fade away as the streets get busier and I sigh, clearing my throat and practicing a few vocals as she sits down and tunes her violin.
"You really think you can become special?" I ask, teasing. A joke.
"I can." She snaps, suddenly stopping. "Not just one of those who think they're special. I'm going to become truly special. A star in the inky infinity of the world."
We stare at eachother, and suddenly she bursts into a fit of giggles that sounds like bells.
She turns to me once we're all ready, and I nod, watching the bow scrape softly against string as I close my eyes. She always liked this song.
"She always wondered where the shadows went, Every time the sun pulled down the day, Why it stretched out in the afternoon, As though to try and break away.
So it goes that in midwinter, When the darkness was complete, She followed close behind her's, And it slipped out from her feet.
They say that beneath the dark side of the moon, With owners fast asleep, The shadows told her stories, Only lack of light can keep.
They say she danced to silence-, Til the black sky turned to blue, That she spent so much time among them, That she turned into a shadow too.
But all we know for certain, Is that she shies from the spotlight, Finding solstice in her silence, And a comfort in the night.
But maybe she just learned, That shadows aren't to be feared, For light is closer,
The bigger they appear." I sigh, leaning back as she stops playing. And so I'll always sing it for her.
_________________I wake with a start, grabbing the wrist of whoever moved to touch me and slam them down to the ground with a growl.
"State your name and reas- Oh. Sorry, Killua." I smile slightly, helping him up and moving away as he starts to yell.
"So that's why you wanted me to wake her up! Lian! Get over here!" He hisses, poking his head out the door.
"She's not there?" Killua murmurs, and I shug, stretching.
"U-um...Sienna...we should go, Killua, she has to get dressed." Gon laughs, shoving Killua out in an instant and slamming the door.
"Eh!? Hey! Easy! Gon-"
I look down, and I feel my the blush crawl up my face as I unroll my shirt from barely covering my bra and change, quickly.
I pause, staring at the wounds from yesterday already healed. Faint scars and black string stitch my skin together, and I sigh. Its somewhat messed up and twisted, but I'm also thankful.
It means I don't have to hate the ones that hurt me, because I'll always be okay.
Just as I'm slinging on my backpack and waving at Gon, Killua, and Lian, an announcement comes on.
"Ahem, can I have everyone's attention? The chairman wishes to...be able to question the examinees that are still left. Please line up in an orderly fashion outside his office near the cafeteria hallway, please."
I frown. For as long as I've know Beans and Netero, I can say something bad is about to happen.
"Ah, well...let's go..." Lian murmurs, and we all agree and start walking towards the cafeteria. Really, I'm just following them, though. I haven't eaten since yesterday.
"Can't say I'm not a little worried. Hey, let's grab something to eat. Can I borrow money from one of you guys?"
"I'm a little short on cash but I'll buy you a sandwich." Lian offered, and I smile and side hug her, breaking into a run as I tug her along.
"Really!? Let's g-Ouch! Ah, sorry, are you ok-" I hear Killua and Gon sigh and laugh as I bump into someone much smaller then me, and let go of Lian as she apologizes as well...
Until a small hand darted out from the cloaked being and smacked me hard enough that I saw stars for a moment.
I freeze.
"Hey! Why'd you hit her!?" Killua snaps, his shoes thudding against the floor behind me in time with Gon's.
"Hey, I'm sure you're upset but she did say sor-"
He or her, is getting up, I turn to the person, and I see a heel poke out from behind her, and my eyes narrow. She darts forward, but I bring my arm up in a chop, and hear a choke as her body crashes back down onto the floor.
I let Lian pick me up, look at my face, and apologise again.
"That hurt. I'm sorry. But whoever you are, whatever you are, if we meet again I'm not sure I'll be so nice." I shrug, turning back to Gon with a small smile.
"She didn't get to land a hit on you, right?"
"Are you kidding!? You were almost as fast as Killua when he took a prisoners heart!" He beams, and I lift an eyebrow, following Lian.
"Now that's a story I'd pay to hear." Lian chuckles, and I nod.
"Ah, well I'll tell you as we eat, that kind of made me hungry...what about you Killua?"
His face is probably redder then the sunrise at the moment, and we all can't help but laugh.
