Nishida's POV
"Okay, thank you, thank you. The meeting is dismissed," Shizuki announced. The sounds of chairs sliding across the floor, papers being tucked into folders and shoes clapping against the tiles was heard as the employees that had gathered in the our office left. The last of them nodded in goodbye, and shut the door behind him when Shizuki and I nodded back.
"I can't believe they're starting the production today," I realized.
"I can't believe it either. But we've worked hard for this day to come," Shizuki said.
I blinked at him. "We?"
"Yes, the Takurais," he replied, the pride evident in his voice.
I scoffed lightly. "You, mom and dad, yes. I just finished it," I told him.
"That's what you're meant to do. Finish it," he said, matter-of-factly.
"What?"
"Our parents started it. I followed. And you, the last born, finished," he explained.
"Whatever. I wasn't born to finish stuff," I muttered, earning a laugh from Shizuki.
"I still can't believe we're siblings, though," I added.
"You can't? What do siblings do that we haven't done yet? We can start today," Shizuki asked, leaning onto the table.
"Maybe we could start with—"
I was interrupted by the violent banging of a door that was actually the door of our office being flung open. A woman in a blue dress shirt and black trousers marched in, followed by Eloïse, who snickered as Shizuki and I rose from our seats. To be honest, I panicked, but I was angry as well.
"What is the meaning of this, Miss Aubert?" Shizuki demanded.
Eloïse totally ignored him. "It's right under that desk," she said to the woman, pointing to Shizuki's desk.
"What is? Your hiding spot?" I jeered. Eloïse either didn't understand what I said or voluntarily ignored me. The woman scurried over to the desk, crouched, and stood up, producing a full, black-colored plastic bag from under the desk.
"This, miss?" she asked Eloïse.
"Yes, that's it," Eloïse said in satisfaction. She approached the woman, took the bag from her hand and, having opened it, spilled its contents onto the floor. Thousands of hundred dollar bills fell out of the bag, and I looked over to Shizuki, who was furious and confused. I immediately understood what she was doing, and I understood what money her mother was talking about. I should have checked under the desk when I saw her there yesterday.
"What is the meaning of this? What are you doing?" he asked, clenching his fists. I slowly scooted to his side and touched his hand, and after glaring at me for a split second, he released his fist.
"Mr. Takurai, we're taking you in for an interrogation," the woman, or the police officer, stated, her voice unvarying in tone and pitch as she approached Shizuki.
"What?" Shizuki and I stated at once.
"He's innocent! You can't just arrest an innocent man!" I protested, stepping in the officer's way as she approached Shizuki. Eloïse just stood there and enjoyed the scene, according to her facial expression. I didn't even know what to think of her anymore, and I definitely knew that her facial expressions were fake.
"I'm not arresting him. We're simply questioning him and he will be arrested if proven guilty," the woman explained. Her monotonous voice was starting to get on my last nerve.
