Summary

The moment before, the thing we've been waiting for. Now we're into the new, out of the past

Thunder rolls through and the rain starts up again. Scar watches in fear as Other Scar and Other Jellie start to cross the street. Jellie stands in a wide stance, also frozen.

Xisuma steps out of the building and waves, "You're finally back!"

Other Scar pauses and waves back, "Been a long day!" He resumes the slow walk.

Something turns the corner. It is a car, a swerving car. Wait, two cars. They're side by side on the road. No lights, quiet against the thunder. With no care, it starts to barrel through the street. Is that even legal? Shouldn't the lights at least be on? Shouldn't they be slower?

"Scar!" Xisuma shouts and points to the cars.

Other Scar turns. He sees them, Other Jellie does too. They are frozen.

The cars are not. They don't slow.

Because there are two cars, there is no rush to the sidewalk. Xisuma doesn't risk it. And Other Scar is too frozen. Do the cars notice him? Notice Jellie? See Xisuma waving for them to slow?

No, they don't.

20.

Other Scar seems to unfreeze slightly.

15.

He tries to conjure something but the umbrella is in the way.

10.

It's in the way.

5.

It's still in the way and the shield is measly. Barely formed, too small.

1.

A hash wind blows through, time appears to freeze. Other Scar and Other Jellie stand with a terrible shield between them and a car. It is too close. A card sits between. Scar thinks he can make out the blue wasteland that feels so far though it happened a day ago. There is something else on the card he can't see and the words are illegible.

The wind wipes everything but them away and it brings back the past. Voices and scenes whirl through wherever this is.

"Scar!" Jellie shouts over the voices she staggers her way to the man who is barely standing himself.

"I got you," Scar says though she can't hear. He scoops her up and moves forward.

It is slow and treacherous. They almost fall many times trying to cross the short distance. But then they're in front of it.

XX, 20. 'JUDGMENT'. The thing in the blue landscape is Scar sitting at a small blue table. His hands are crossed and he smiles, waiting.

For how much Scar hates it, he moves forward just enough that he touches the card.
