She was still on to me.
For some reason, I felt it was deeper than I thought. I thought I made her stay away since the quarrel with my sister. But it seemed nature always had me bumping in to her at every slight chance and also in one way or the other, making sure she found me in her 'spot' every single time."Hey dummy, you're in my spot...again". She said, hands still placed on the arm of my seat.
I admit, I was quite timid and lowly esteemed at my previous school. But in this school, I had suddenly developed 'guts', so to say. So much guts that I could always think of good comebacks to troublemakers like moyo whenever they crossed my path and tried to intimidate me. I still needed to work on my shuddering voice though.
"Says who?". I said to her, voice slightly shuddering.
"Says me and and says everyone around here". She said, booming with arrogance and confidence, and looking around. Probably searching for the look of approval on the faces of others. Everyone just stared blankly at us, waiting for us to stop our bickering.
"This is my spot, miss. So if you don't mind, you can leave and find somewhere else". She added.
I looked round. Where was my usual hero, Michael when I needed him? Had he finally turned into a chicken?
But just in the nick of time, he came to the rescue, or not."Hey hey, what's going on here? You guys are delaying the meeting. We are supposed to have started twenty minutes ago". He said, coming in between us.
"Well, moyo said that she....". I began to say.
"Doyin, please find another seat, moyo is the president of the club, so she has a fixed seat at the center, and that's the seat you are sitting in". He said, cutting me short and making me dumbfounded at the same time.
I didn't know she was the president. Michael didn't tell me that. I'm sure he did it on purpose. He probably knew that I wouldn't even think of joining the club if I knew she was going to be there.
Smart move, Michael. Now that I was here, I couldn't back out. That would be a cowardly move.
"Oh...I thought...". I began to say but hesitated.
"You know what? Never mind". I said and stood up from the 'spot', giving Michael a death stare. He looked terrified."Humph!". Moyo said and sat down.
I looked round for a seat and found one beside our class rep.
"Is anyone here?". I asked him."Nope". He replied.
I sat down and looked across to moyo's 'spot'. She had always found me in her space and I always proved her wrong with Michael's help. But this time, it really was her spot.
***********************************
When the meeting ended, I didnt hesitate before I packed my bags to leave, you would think nature was calling me.
I felt like I didn't belong there. Everyone was busy answering questions and giving ideas but my mind was completely blank.
Miss president was being bossy and know-it-all as expected.
Michael was obviously pissed off because she was always cutting him off.
"So, there's a huge project coming up soon". She began to say.
"Yes, the school is planning to-". Michael started to add before she chimed in.
"Um, I believe I was speaking, please don't interrupt me". She said, ego oozing all over her.
Michael cleared his throat.
"Sorry ma'am, you may proceed". He said, almost mockingly.
I and a whole lot of others tried to hold back our facial expressions before coming back to our original positions.
