A few days passed since Natalia left her mistresses's room with the earring on and multiple others had noticed it quickly. Talks were going around about her being the favourite as she hadn't been hurt yet, how she was doing favours for the Lady and her daughters for gifts.
These were all quiet whenever Natalia walked past the other maids, she never heard the rumours of course. They were just talking through the castle, everyone knew that she was heavily religious and it was just a game. She was simply helping the mistress and her daughters in a way that no one else did, various people got jealous though.
Most maids ignored Natalia, only acknowledging her when needed and most began not helping her when she asked. 'We're busy right now' they'd say and the librarian only thought it to be true, she didn't know that they were lying to her, she always was gullible.
In her previous house, she did everything the same as now, besides being the librarian, and was shamed for doing it in front of her owner. He called her names, abused her and then some. She had to help others escape the house and she didn't care if she were caught. In the end, her closest friend got out and she got caught. The friend promised to find her again and free her, it's been several months and a move to a different location so Natalia doubted it but was hopeful that her friend got out safely.
The librarian now is treated kindly by Daniela and Alcina, yet, the older two siblings haven't had an expertly crafted bonding session with themselves nor really spent much time in the library. Natalia didn't mind, of course, everyone was busy with their own tasks and such.
She was daydreaming as she walked towards the library this morning, just thinking about what she was going to read in her break as she was halfway through 'The Odyssey' and wanting to try to finish it today.
Her hair was remained yesterday by Daniela so her braid was neat and presentable, she never took her hair out from the way it was made as it felt so natural for the youngest girl to do this to her. She hummed a tune and opened the door to the library to see a large box on a table, Natalia walked towards the box and saw a note attached:
Librarian,
Inside is a new collection of books ordered from the Duke, organise them and maybe you'll find something that you might enjoy.
-Lady Dimitrescu
The note was small and the handwriting was beautiful, the signature was done presentably well for such a simple note it made Natalia smile softly at it. She put the note back down and opened up the box, seeing a number of new books.
Some were in Lattin, French, English and Romanian but they all were new and seemed to be of amazing quality. Whoever the Duke was, Natalia appreciated him for keeping the books in such good condition, they seemed to be old as well but completely new too.
Smiling, she picked up the books and began organising them, placing them in new spaces she made for them, making sure they were all alphabetically still and so on. Each book had its own place on the shelves and was each placed in respective homes to be read in the future by anyone else who wishes to read them.
Around three hours had passed of her walking up and down the alleys, going up and down the ladders and stairs, every new book besides the last one was up in place. Various others went through at some points throughout the organising and went along with just taking the books out, not asking but plainly ignoring the librarian. Natalia wrote down what books went out and who took them to keep track, she simply shrugged it off as them not wanting to interfere.
She had been humming slightly the whole time, a song from her childhood that kept her going, and once she climbed down the staircase, she walked towards the last book and saw it. She stopped suddenly.
