Nine - Emma

Today was the day Taylor was supposed to arrive in London. Emma was currently sitting next to her mother in one of the two terminals in a small private airport on the west end of London. It was completely empty, which Emma figured Taylor probably had something to do with.

Emma's mom kept giving her confused glances. Emma had said she was headed to the airport to pick her friend up, and this wasn't exactly what her mother had in mind when she agreed to come along. Instead of sitting just outside the baggage claim at the international airport they were sitting in a completely empty small airport that rarely ever saw any traffic. Emma had never told her mum who exactly her friend was. The only explanation the older woman had received was, "A friend from New York that she had met through work."

"Is that a plane there? That must be them there, yes?" Emma's mother looked at her searching for some confirmation. Emma wasn't entirely sure that her mum believed that Taylor was a real person. After all, she couldn't figure out why they would be here instead of the real airport to pick someone up.

Emma nodded and watched as the plane made a smooth landing and three people got out onto the tarmac. Taylor and an older woman, who Emma assumed was her mother, each drug a suitcase behind them while a large man that Emma didn't recognize looked around, sizing up the airport. They walked through the big double doors and towards Emma and her mother. Taylor smiled at Emma.

Emma turned to see her mothers face go pale and her eyes grow three times their size.

Taylor stuck her hand out to Emma's mum, introducing herself, her mother, then Frederick, the man who was obviously some sort of security. Dean, another bodyguard, was still on the plane.

Emma's mother stuck her hand out to shake Taylors before giving up on the handshake and pulling her in for a hug. "I'm Evelyn, Emma's mum. It's so lovely to meet you. And you too, Andrea." Once Evelyn let go of Taylor she hugged Andrea as well. She waved at Frederick who, if it weren't for how far away he was standing, probably would've gotten a hug too.

They talked for a moment before walking towards the car. Evelyn lingered back a little so she could talk to her daughter without her guests overhearing. "Emma! You didn't Tell me your friend was Taylor Swift!" She looked at her daughter with saucers in the place her eyes used to be. "I would have, well I don't know. I would've made an extra bed for her bodyguard at least, or made an extra batch of cookies."

Emma laughed and smiled cheekily, thoroughly enjoying every moment of her proper moment stressing out about not being a perfect hostess for Taylor. "Mum, it's okay. I promise. They won't mind only having two dozen cookies instead of three."

"You still could have told me!"

Three days later Emma sat sitting on a kitchen stool waiting on the timer to go off for the muffins in the oven. Balloons taped to the wall spelled out the words happy birthday, and other decorations like confetti, streamers, and cardstock party hats that Emma had made and decorated, were scattered around the house.

There was a cake that Emma and her mother had baked and embellished last night in the fridge. The cake was vanilla with fluffy lavender icing covering it. Emma had piped flowers on the sides using different shades of purple and placed a pearly sprinkle at the center. Evelyn had written a white frosted 'Happy Birthday Taylor' on the top of the cake with her beautifully curved letters.

Emma and her mother had stayed awake long after Taylor had fallen asleep and enlisted the help of Andrea to decorate the house. It was roughly seven in the morning and Emma had woken up earlier this morning to make banana muffins for breakfast, a birthday necessity.
